I've noticed that a fair portion of monsters are Combat 0, which got me thinking about what their uses would be for their various factions. Obviously, they are useful for capturing unescorted cultists. And escorting their own cultists. And soaking damage. And in some cases, unlocking special abilities via their faction spellbooks. Am I missing any additional uses for Combat 0 monsters?

Those are all god reasons. Each monster type in the whole game has at least one spellbook for them - except formless spawn which are not zero combat.

To be fair though, there are actually only 3 monster types among the factions that are Ero combat not counting undead which varies. And all 3 have really good combat spellbooks (necrophagy, abduct, and energy nexus)

Yes, they have their 'god reasons'. Even at zero power, they are still gods to us, and you have no right to question them.

here is an analysis of the 0 point monsters.

1) Cost - these critters are cheap. Sometimes a cheap gate guard or damage sink is all you need. In the case of Ghouls, with Thousand Young their price can drop to 0! They are often summoned in early game, to capture bold enemy cultists who build a gate without a guardian, or at least to discourage such action.

2) spellbooks - as mentioned they all have a useful spellbook.

3) abilities - some of them are handy because they either play into a special ability, or have one of their own. For instance, a lone Undead has 0 Combat, but since he can move for free along with the King in Yellow (who also has 0 Combat), plus increase the chance for a Desecration, he's worth having.

3) list of 0-Combat beasties: Ghouls, Nightgaunts, Undead (when alone), Wizards, Cultists, High Priests, Moonbeasts, Ghasts, and Servitors of the Outer Gods have a -1 Combat, which is even worse than 0. Some Great Old Ones also either have 0 Combat, or CAN have it situationally. For instance, Cthugha's Combat is 0 if no enemy Great Old One is present in the Battle.
