We'll be playing AB for the first time tonight. 3 of the 4 have played Fleet before, but it's been a while. 1 player is brand new to the game.

Prior to this we only had the base game with none of the extras from the first KS. With the AB Kickstarter we now have everything you can possibly get for the game, and we're excited to use the new stuff, but we also don't want to "overdo" it in this first game. As such, we're looking for a nice mix that won't put too much unfamiliar into the game as to slow it down.

Any thoughts or suggested setups? Thanks in advance!

Last weekend our gaming foursome dipped our toes in Arctic Bounty. Our group included a first-timer, so we didn't want to overdo it.
• Regarding the standard licenses, we removed the Cod and Processing Vessel licenses, and replaced them with the Char and Pacific Oyster licenses.
• Regarding the premium licenses, we removed the King Crab and Fishermen's Pub licenses and replaced them with the Marina and Wharfside Casino licenses.
• We went with only one Bay card (Tug Boat) and one Dock card (Gone Fishin').

This may not seem like much when you consider how many options there are, but the Bay and Dock cards introduced some new steps into the game flow, and the lack of Processing vessels also affected game flow significantly.

We had a blast. Char proved to be particularly desirable. Pacific Oyster is more limited in scope. (Its effect is limited to Pacific Oyster boats, unlike the Processing Vessels' ability to process crates from any type of boat.) We all took advantage of the Tug Boats. And later in the game, the Gone Fishin' cards made the rounds several times.

I think this selection worked well to intruduce us to the new mechanics without overwhelming us.
