I'm playing the founder, and have set up the map as shown. I chose to go first. Playing in Test Mode.

B1
B2
B3

The next move I do will be a Skunk.
After that possibly a cactus or poison oak or second skunk.
(For test purposes I think we can reference the game by picture number like "On B3 you ...so on B7 I went with...)

Cactus makes it 3. Oak is worth 1 - 1 = 0.

My initial thought was "I did not see that coming!" I sat back in my chair with that, I just lost the game, shock. Then I found this one. I have 3 pieces left and used all of them to sparrow.

B13
I have no more pieces so that's game!
Final Score
Red: 1
Yellow: 3

I like that I sparrowed my most crucial piece of the game.
Thoughts?

I win this game. I still have an oak and lots of pieces. I migrate a Fly to the topmost FR, then to the left FR. If I have another Fly, I get another point

Now you know why oaks are valuable.

Ah, that's what I missed. Well played.

For the sake of the test what if I had done this...

Hm. That Fly would be worth 0 because it's adjacent to 2 Cactus. I would Rats up north to take the lead. If you happened to have a third Fly (depends on your play style, but rare in control decks) you could tie up the game.

The founder is intended to have an advantage, which is why the loser founds. The other player's motive is to minimize damage until it is his or her turn to found. If you lose by 1 when your opponent has the advantage, then win by 3 when you have the advantage, you are awesome. It is not common to win when the opponent founds in a 2 player game, but a skunk opener is not the only way to abuse your advantage. I'd like to see you play a game where skunks are banned and see what you come up with
