The Meeple Source Kickstarter that launched on February 18, 2014 has been a blast. They've been so on the ball and responsive and so many ideas from backers have been turned into designs.

It's hard enough just deciding what meeples you want when they constantly expand to include more interesting options, let alone trying to figure out a good way to store them. Obviously, basic clear plastic bags are great options when you're putting things in a game box, but sometimes you may need something to hold them for travel or if you'll be using them for multiple games.

Now that my own meeple order is starting to take shape in the last days of the campaign, I am trying to pull some custom bags together for storage solutions. Backers started using Artscow.com bags with TMG products (since their microgames don't have boxes) and now it's becoming more common (e.g. TEK meeple storage). Earlier in the Meeple Source Kickstarter campaign backer Rainer Alhfors uploaded a design with his coupon codes. Here is a direct link to the details for his designs -- http://kck.st/1d6ajXK

I'd like to share the following options for people based on bags I started designing for myself. It's fun and fairly easy to make your own designs on Artscow---the interface is pretty easy to use and the prices are hard to beat with coupon and special offers. I encourage you to experiment with your own bags, but offer these for people who don't have the time or inclination to do so. In most cases, I have provided the art files so you can modify the images if I left out your favorite meeple.

I am dividing the designs into the larger cosmetic bags (which have excellent coupons) and the smaller mini coin purses (which have a different promotional coupon right now until the end of March -- note: coupons often list an expiration date, but get renewed or are seasonal):

COSMETIC BAGS

New customer code - Z099PLAY3S6TP
$0.99 with free worldwide shipping, $4.99 each additional

Returning customer code - ZNYSU5G
$1.99 first, each additional $4.99 free shipping

What size to buy?

Good question. This picture compares a mini coin purse (4.5" x 2.75") and a small cosmetic bag (4" x 7") and shows what 100 standard meeples (16mm) look like inside a small cosmetic bag. The Character meeples are mega meeples (19mm base).

The real question to me is if your meeples will be loose in the bag (much higher capacity) or if you'll put plastic baggies within it to keep them sorted (e.g. TEK -- a much lower capacity). Here are the dimensions of each cosmetic bag size:

Small - 4" x 7"

Medium - 5" x 8"

Large - 6" x 9"

Since the vast majority of meeples I have right now are standard size (16mm), I am at a loss for how many mega meeples (19mm) will fit in each bag. Some of the estimates I have seen feel a little low as the sizes increase, BUT if you baggie within the bag, space runs away in a hurry. If you're concerned at all, just wait until people get a sense and report back. Please remember also that some of these meeples have wings and details that extend beyond the normal meeple silhouette. I'll leave this call up to you.

MINI COIN PURSES

4 MINI COIN PURSES - $9.99 with free world-wide shipping!

Coupon Code - MINICOINPURSE4

Dimensions - 4.5" x 2.75"

Capacity - up to 20 mega meeples (While I've crammed up to 48 standard meeples into these little bags, it wasn't pretty)

These could make great little travel companions for small batches of meeples. I've used these for keeping dice handy, my niece's doll house cooking utensils, my nephew's Lego weapons, microgames like Coin Age, and other odds and ends like metal game coins. These are bags I made as I thought about my own options, but you can easily make your own for your favorites. I haven't made a Pandemic coin purse yet, but I expect to soon (I'm less worried about making storage solutions for sets that can easily go in a game box).

Gotta keep it simple with these smaller bags. Normally I like to stick to the white backdrop, but I went with the light blue with the logo because that's the color of backdrop for creator comments on Kickstarter. I'm just used to seeing the logo with the blue backdrop and have a positive association with that now.

What's an "on-the-go" game without a handy travel pouch. No one wants to lose a Villager before the game even starts.

LAND OF OZ MEEPLES

One of my favorite sets! Perhaps you think it's more a novelty gift set than something for games, but I'm convinced Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion, Fairy (Glinda), and some mini-meeples (Munchkins) would be a good set to take against the Witch and Gargoyles (close alternative to the Flying Monkeys) for an engaging game of 2-player Carcassonne! If you do end up doing that -- post the pictures!

CRIMESTOPPERS & THE BAND

http://www.artscow.com/gallery/coin-purse/-ahw56xhkjaxj

Just having some fun with these ...

CRIMESTOPPERS - Sherlock, Watson, Robber, Spy, Male Rogue

MEEPLE ALL-STARS BAND - Lizardfolk (lead singer), Rock Star (lead guitar), Mariachi (rhythm guitar), Satyr (horns), and Mermaid and Hulu Girl (scantily clad back-up singers and dancers)

TINY EPIC KINGDOMS MEEPLES

When the TEK meeples were first launched, I had way too much time on my hands and I made mini coin purses for themed pairs of each faction as well as individual ones for each faction. These are all over at the TEK game pages (HERE).

Pretty much anything I did related to TEK is at that link.

Detail added to the original post that those meeples will be a 19mm base height. Some wings and hats may exceed that -- so it will depend even more on what you order. Thanks, Ryan.

I'm interested in a box if anyone thinks of anything that would work for these guys. If I can't find one I may just throw them in a Crown Royal bag.

Have you considered the plastic Plano boxes that you can find for craft storage (i.e. beads) at any arts and crafts store? Those are fairly inexpensive and will keep things organized.
