I love Agricola but seldom get the chance to play it with 2 or more players. Consequently I spend a lot of time chasing the targets for solo scores as set out in the rules... BUT...well, sometimes, it gets a bit mechanical, unless you have an inspiring/devastating combo of occupations and minor improvements.

Are there any variants particularly designed for solo play that don't turn the whole game on its head?

Thanks in anticipation. Dig for Victory, and God Speed the plough!

The key is in the resource replenishment.

Why is there no Word Games Forum or Subdomain?

There should be a Word Games Subdomain, or at least a Word Games Forum!

I've played several games of a multi-player solo game.

What?

Yes. Multi-player solo. Play multiple farms/colors, but you play all of them yourself. Play using the normal rules of a multi-player game. Your score is whichever color got the lowest score. So you have to keep the different farms balanced - you can't just play all but one like an idiot and have the last one get all the points. If you play, say, a 5-player game, and the scores are 30, 45, 47, 49, and 53. Your score is 30.

One advantage is that it lets in a wider variety of occupations.

Hmmm. That's interesting, Phil. I will try that form of solo play.
