I played this game for the first time a few nights ago. There were 6 players, 3 coop teams vs the vampire.

This game kicked our butts. We couldn't accumulate any aids to make us stronger. Every time we got a valuable card, something came along and stripped it away. Before the Shadow track got to the last segment, the strongest team attacked the vampire and were slaughtered.

I went back and read the rules again. We made a couple of minor errors, but nothing that should have made a big difference.

Is this supposed to be a hopeless endeavor or did I miss something.

You must have missed something, or you were just really unlucky.

There is a lot of variation in how "difficult" each game is depending on die rolls, cards drawn, and if the Advanced Cooperative Mystery Phase chart is used. Usually the villains in the base game are not terribly difficult so maybe some errors were made.

Can you describe what basic rules and advanced rules you were playing with? The rulebook does suggest that beginners play the basic rules for the first few games until you get the hang of it.

We have found that there is a learning curve that comes with experience. The more you play the easier it will get as you learn.

We were playing with the basic rules and the Coop Shadow Track.

Looks like we missed a couple of rules that really hampered our ability. Totally our fault. Time to give it another try.

For added flavor, use all new heroes and when you have to fight any vampire minions, use the minis from your last game. :p

But in all seriousness, good luck and hope you have fun!!

How were you collecting Investigation from the board? Freely while on the space? Or rolling Spirit/Cunning for it?

How much health did you start the Villain with?

If you haven't already, take a look at UnversalHead's Rules Summary, & ScottE's Map Reference, both in the files section.

The former really makes the learning curve much gentler, & the latter is incredibly useful for easily identifying all the points of interest on the map & planning where/what you want to focus on.
