Put competitive play aside for a moment, forget about 100-point games and optimal skill synergy. Forget about Fel+PTL+SD, whatever.

Do you have "fun little setups" you play with friends? I have one of each expansion, so I can't really build those nasty BBBX squads everybody's taking, but I like. I also play with my 7 y.o. son, so I try to build setups that are relatively simple but "showcase" some of the different upgrades and abilities.

Here are some of them, please feel free to contribute some of your owns!

"I have you now!"
A cool setup, probably the one I have used the most often to teach the game to newcomers, or just to have fun (Who doesn't like Luke VS Vader?). There's an interesting "protect the leader" mechanic too. Doable with only Wave 1 expansions.

IMPERIALS (65 points)

Darth Vader (29)
+ Squad Leader (2)
+ Concussion Missile (4)

2 x Black Squadron (28)
+ Draw their Fire (2x1)

REBELS (65 points)

Luke Skywalker (28)
+ R2-D2 (4)
+ Proton torpedo (4)

Biggs Darklighter (25 points)
+Proton Torpedo (4)

"Easy Bounty"
Using the "Preystalker" Scenario to do Boba Fett looking for Han Solo, a classic. The fully-decked Boba Fett feels kind of "All-powerful". Also, Focus play with rebels is kind of fun.

IMPERIALS (90 points)

Boba Fett (39)
+Homing Missile (5)
+Proximity Mine (3)
+Expose (4)
+Slave-1 (0)
+Stealth Device (3)
+Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
+Gunner (5)

2 X Academy Pilot (24)

REBELS (150 points)

Bounty: Han Solo (Total:93 points)
+Chewbacca (4 free)
+Engine Upgrade (4 free)
+Elusiveness (2 free)
+Millenium Falcon (1)

Kyle Katarn (21)
+Blaster Turret (4)
+Recon Specialist (3)
+Moldy Crow (3)

Garven Dreis (26)

=====================
"Imperial Convoy"
And this is a reversed "Preystalker", which we're NOT supposed to do (ssssshhhttt). But imagine Leia in Vader's Shuttle, and Luke coming in to save her. Even if you only have to destroy the Shuttle, there are a LOT of imperial ships buzzing around.

REBELS (90 points)

Luke Skywalker (28)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Red Squadron Pilot (23)
Prototype Pilot (17)

IMPERIALS (150 points)

Bounty: Omicron Pilot Group (Total: 54 points)
+Sensor Jammer (4 free)
+Darth Vader (3 free)
+Rebel Captive (3 free)
+ST-321 (3)
+Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
+Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Black Squadron Pilot x 3 (42 points)

Alpha Squadron Pilot x 3 (54 points)

"Endor My Beloved"
Something of a love letter to the Battle of Endor. It's a shame there's no official "Destroy target X" scenario, I'd make some kind of Death Star Run out of this. Probably a way to include an A-Wing (Arvel Crynyd), a B-Wing and Horton Salm in this somewhere.

REBELS (90 points)
Lando Calrissian (44)
+Nien Numb (1)
+Millenium Falcon (1)
+Cluster Missile (4)
+Shield Upgrade (4)

Wedge (29)
+Proton Torpedoes (4)
+Push the Limit (3)

IMPERIALS (90 points)

3 X Alpha Squadron Pilot (54)

3 X Academy Pilot (36)

Very cool idea. I don't have anything to contribute but consider me subscribed. I hope other people have setups they can post too!

Thumbs up, I really like that idea for teaching the game. Thanks a lot!

Thanks!

"Famous nobodys"
This one I've used with my son to focus on how different ships fly differently. Since he does not read english fully, I've kept away from specific pilots and upgrades except where they are very "core" to how the ship works (Y-Wing and Tie Bomber). It's also great to notice the differences between Pilot skills since they spread all over from 1 to 4. Notice all the bright colors names for Rebels

IMPERIALS (87 points)

Avenger Squadron (20)
Storm Squadron (23)
2xAcademy Pilot (2x12)
Gamma Squadron (18)
+Seismic Charges (2)

REBELS (87 points)

Red Squadron (23)
Blue Squadron (22)
Green Squadron (19)
Gold Squadron (18)
+Ion Cannon Turret (5)

1 vs 1 is rarely an interesting matchup since you lack the flanking/maoeuvering thrill, and for 1 vs 2 you can't do much better than the basic "X-Wing VS TIE" in the Core Set, except maybe with Han Solo & an X-Wing VS Boba Fett & something like a Tie Bomber (laying bombs and mines everywhere is FUN!).

I think he meant 1 player vs 2 players, or team play of 2 players vs 2 players.

All I play is casual games with my nephew & brother-in-law. I like to mess around and play with all kinds of different squads. My enjoyment in the game is experimenting and customizing, not so much whether I win or lose. I'm sure most of the them are not competitive but I have a lot of fun.

Anyway, probably my favorite Imperial squad is the Black Squadron.

Vader, Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, Dark Curse, & a Black Sqdrn pilot. Sometimes I swap out the pilot for something else (or nothing) & I add whatever upgrades I'm in the mood for with the leftover points.

I like this squad for thematic reasons. Mithel & Backstabber were Vaders wingmen in the trench & Dark Curse was fighting above it. I am also an old SWCCG player so I have an affinity for DS-61-2,3 & 4 in their respective ships.

Hummm... for 1 Player VS 2 Players I'd take Mission 4 (The Falcon one) and have a player play the Falcon as a smuggler and the other one as the rest of the ships.

--

Here's another one I want to try.

"Only missing a big space worm"
Mission 2 is fun but sketchy on how to do it properly with squad building. Since destroying an X-Wing in 5 turns is easier than destroying a Falcon, I scaled up the points difference for the Imperials (its 35 to 29 in the original scenario).

REBELS(52 points)
Han Solo (46 points)
+ Chewbacca (4)
+ Expert Handling (2)
+ Millenium Falcon (1)

IMPERIALS(63 points)
Boba Fett (39 points)
+ Slave-I (0)
+ Advanced Proton Torpedo (6)

Scimitar Squadron (16)
+ Seismic Charges (2)

Sorry, yes, I did mean one player vs two players.

We often find for this matchup, to be balanced, the two player side needs slightly more points. So we'll play 100pts for the single player vs about 120 pts total for the two players (two forces of 60 each).

Still trying to find a nice fun match..

Is Draw their Fire correct? That's with the Falcon isn't it?

By the way, I love these and am looking forward to posting my own cool casuals as well...

Got to play this one tonight...very fun little dog fight, and as you stated, great as an intro (or 2nd game after the quick-start rules) for newer players. Next time I want to arrange the asteroids in more of a "trench" layout instead of random scatter...
Thanks for posting all of these, and encouraging others.
