A grand Rebel Raiders on the High Seas time was held during last Month's PrezCon gaming Convention in Charlottesville, Va..
Both the semi-final and final games of the competition were won during each game's final December 1864 turn by the Union! There was consensus that adding the optional "Hunt's Artillery" rule made for a balanced contest and that seems to have worked out fine. With that optional rule in place, players felt they had a good opportunity for victory with either the Union or the Confederacy.
So it's congratulations to the first winner of REBEL RAIDERS convention "wood" to Charles Hickok who dramatically won as the Union overcoming Wyatt Bogan's tough Confederate defence in an exciting game that went the distance to a dramatic Dec. 1864 conclusion which witnessed Union capture of New Orleans, Atlanta, and Richmond.
It goes to show that players should never give up until the game is decided. "It ain't over until it's over!" certainly rang true in game after game during PrezCon's REBEL RAIDERS fun.
Preceding experience was reinforced by PrezCon and "Hunt's Artillery" will be used with the 1861 game start for the Rebel Raiders on the High Seas competition during WBC at the Lancaster Host Resort this coming August.
WBC, however, will handle REBEL RAIDERS in a different manner from prior experiences. Thurs., 8/7/14, will provide three opportunities to learn the game, or have questions answered, via early morning, early afternoon, and early evening demos. At 8:00PM Thurs., a "Mulligan" round will be offerred.
Then at 9:00AM Friday, 8/8/14 morning a single elimination, "last man standing" competition begins. Below is the WBC Program's REBEL RAIDERS event description.
GMT's Rebel Raiders on the High Seas is a game of the naval conflict at sea and on the great rivers in the American Civil War and includes abstract handling of the land war. It is a strategic contest between two players, one seeking to reunite the Union by force, the other to maintain its new independence in the face of the escalating industrial might and resolve of its northern brother.
At WBC, Rebel Raiders will be played with a practice Mulligan Round where losses are forgiven and wins are granted a bye to sleep in through the first round which starts the next day with continuous rounds of elimination play until conclusion. The Union side will be awarded the optional "Hunts Artillery" Rule (which many gamers on the net agree makes for more balanced competitive play).
Rebel Raiders on the High Seas game designer, Mark McLaughlin will be joining me in running what should prove a fun and enjoyable event for all participants.
We hope to see you there!
Enjoy Rebel Raiders on the High Seas!
