There's no games group meetings on The Wirral and advertising the fact. Your choices are either Chester or Liverpool city centres, where there are meetings on Monday nights.

I've never been to the Chester meeting, but I gather there's lots of Magic, FRP and similar as the main activities with some board games - the event they organised that I went to certainly had that balance.

Details of the Liverpool meeting are in the Opening Post

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/930770/liverpool-lion-boardg...

which is up-to-date.

If you're near a Merseyrail station this is convenient as it's right by Moorfields station. We have 3 or 4 games going at once at the meetings, this week we played Tzolkin, Rail Baron (new edition), London, King of Tokyo, and some fillers. Post questions on our thread if you want more information.

There is also Deeside Defenders each Thursday at the Airbus Club in Broughton near Chester. 50 to 60 attend from 6.30 to 11. There is a wide range of games played with one group playing the type of games you own. Check the website for directions. The Chester Club meets on Mondays in the city centre and the type of boardgames played includes your type of games.

Hey Paul, thanks for that. I have actually already been to the Cross Keys group before. You guys were all great BTW. I have not been back because I was involved in traffic collision and I am still paying for it. Should be all clear by the end of May so I can then afford to start coming again regularly. I am not located near a train station so have to bus it to Liverpool, which to be honest is a real pain. I can't believe (and refuse to) that there is no one else on the Wirral who would not be up for playing boardgames on a regular basis. It seems statistically nuts. I will continue in my quest (yes it is a quest now) to try find others. Wish me luck.

Now I realise who you are. Would have helped if you mentioned you knew of us in your post.

One of our members lives somewhere near Bromborough and drives to meetings, but he's not there every week so you can't rely on lifts, although you could swap phone numbers and make arrangements once you meet him.

It's not that improbable that there's no games group open to new members in The Wirral - from memory these North West towns don't have a club: Manchester, Blackburn, Burnley, Blackpool, Wigan, Southport, Macclesfield, Ormskirk, Oldham, Skelmersdale, while Warrington only started 2 years ago.

Hey Paul, sorry for not mentioning I knew of you. Pleased I made such an impression. Any subsequent visits to your group would not have me relying on lifts. My long term goal still remains to get a group up and running here though. Amazing those larger towns don't have their own though.surprise Thanks again for all your help, hopefully see you all soon.

Wigan has the Wigan Wargames Club which, despite the name, plays a lot more than just wargames. There is a fair mix of boardgames, card games, miniatures games, etc that are played at the club there. Click on the link provided for the BGG guild listing, with a further link to the club's website (with forums there). (The WWC started ten years, and obviously needs to advertise itself better...)

(Sorry to hijack the thread that is ostensibly about The Wirral, but thought if anyone else reads this, I would correct the statement about Wigan at least.)

Russell, you're quite right to correct my mistake, and it's useful to know this as you border on us so there will be gamers who live within range of both of our clubs. I'll let anyone in North East Merseyside asking about games clubs know about you in future.

You must admit though that your club name doesn't indicate a lot of boardgames activity (see also names with Dragons, Raiders and Demons for misleading titles). However, you are in The UK FAQ so I should have done better.

I think there is a club in Blackburn now... shop based. Oldham is covered by Ashton and Rochdale. Qualify Manchester with City Centre as 3 I know of in S Manchester now.

Also I'm seriously considering a Southport splinter group....yuk

I dare say

Are you claiming Stockport as part of Manchester? There is a new meeting in Manchester specifically to playtest games, but a specialised group that's met once so far hardly counts as a games group. And clubs in Rochdale aren't in Oldham, which is why I said there isn't an Oldham club.

There's a group at Heaton Moor plus Magers in Heaton Mersey and the Ivy club in Didsbury.
I know the Heatons are technically Stockport but they're north or the Mersey so that makes them Manchester Lancashire in my book.

The Wigan wargamers gets my vote as a great club to go along to. Friday night can be awkward which is why my attendance is sporadic. There is a big mix of things going on and the venue is always full with about 10 tables in use. There is usually at least 2-3 board games going on as well as miniatures, rpg and card games.

Little bit of thread necromancy but I live on the Wirral and wouldn't mind meeting a few people local to play. I know about Liverpool Lions but it doesn't work for me unfortunately :-(

Do you work in Liverpool? There's two groups there. One meets in The Baltic Social on Monday and the other on Thursday in The Cross Keys.

Other than that my better half found a single photo of people playing a game in Otto in Heswall today.

I'm thinking of starting one in Bebington soon (near to the station most likely)

The Monday meeting in Liverpool is in The Baltic Fleet, a pub opposite The Albert Dock.

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/930770/liverpool-lion-board...

There are also meetings on Saturdays in Forbidden Planet and a monthly meeting in Kensington.

Be interested if you get something up and running (and could help if you need) as Bebington would be easier for me to get to than Liverpool. I'm only down the road in Ellesmere Port.

Did you miss my forum post on 22 February: "Any interest in setting up a boardgame group in Ellesmere Port?"

If you are looking to game closer to home than Liverpool, a group of us game at The Bird in Hand in Guilden Sutton on Wednesdays, there is a Chester Group that meet on Mondays and each Thursday, plenty of boardgames are played at Deeside Defenders, Airbus near Chester.

Oooh didn't spot that topic. Theres quite a few halls in Ellesmere Port which would be good locations.

Guilden Sutton is not too far either. Do you meet every Wednesday?

We do. There is a core group of 6 and usually 4 or 5 present. Last night we had two tables going for the first time ever. We played HitZRoad, No Siesta, Dokmus, Qwixx, Keltis the card game, For Sale and Loco.

Re Ellesmere Port - it might be worth trying a couple of one off meetings to see if it generates any interest. Perhaps we could chat about it if you join us at The Bird one Wednesday?
