I've blocked the Kickstarter announcements. It's made for a happier browsing experience.

If KickstartGeek.com is already taken, they could use KickstartSpam.com!

I dunno. Considering that many geeks are like this

when a new project is announced, and then like this

when they learn that the game contains minis, Sag undeniably has a point.

The encore when the project doesn't deliver or is delayed?

I don't mind presence, it's that it's becoming ubiquitous. It's like eating a pound of chocolate in one sitting.

I looked over my frontpage and saw a few threads having to do with kickstarter. That thing where people are creating and selling boardgames.

Maybe we should change it to 'incrediblywhinygeek.com'gulp

Actually, in terms of prominence and distraction, UselessGeekListGeek.com would be a better name.

Note that you can see new crowdfunded games coming out by subscribing to the blog BoardGameGeek News; there's no need for trying to see all the spam posts being made in all kinds of threads and forums all over the site just to know what new games are coming out.

While not viewing the front page or anything, can't say I disagree.

It's been said tons of time and I can say it again: It's not that I dislike Kickstarter for what it is, and it's not that I don't know that it's a wonderful resource.

It's just that I think focus should lie on finished products and not "the next thing around the corner that's not done yet but yeah is it gonna be cool!". And currently, it feels like upcoming games (games that don't exist yet) are more important than games that… well… actually ARE.

The funny thing is that I made the post out of amusement more than anything. I really couldn't care how a game gets to market. But my golly, it seems to be about half of all the advertising revenue on the site right now.

It's normal for someone trying to fund a new game to look for backers here. It doesn't cost me anything and it might help their dreams come true (I know, not all Kickstarts are little guys with big dreams).
