LOL @ Italy

I can't even imagine what 15 influence mean thematically. Something Orwellian, like the total control of every citizen who fanatically and tirelessly works to fulfill orders of his masters.

Looks like a 6-to-9 Brush War result to me.

I imagine 15 INF would mean red fabric is banned.

Hah, that's always how Italy ends up when I'm playing the US. It'll be my only toe hold in Europe to prevent an instant defeat. I'm no Twilight Struggle expert, but there just don't seem to be many events which effect Italy?

I can think of only Socialist Governments and Brush War (which happened in this case). Or Truman, if it is uncontrolled (which is very rare).

Simply:

English replacing Italian as official language.
Italy being a 51. state of USA.

I agree that this must've been Brush War. I've seen 15 infl in a country before, but this is the most lopsided influence situation I've seen (except after a miraculous late-game Warsaw Pact).

I've seen 18 in Thailand and 12 in Italy before, both with Brush War.

With all events mentioned above, only NATO and Special Relationship (if NATO triggered) are yet missing. So that's quite a lot in total.

Technically also cards that apply everywhere, like De-stalinization and NORAD.

Edit: And also Puppet Governments, though I doubt that is ever going to be relevant for Italy.

Oh, man, I remember how I made a power play on turn 3 headlining De-Stalinization into France and W Germany (I took Italy earlier) and seized Control of Europe only to lose later to Wargames. Talk about embarrassment.

It depends somehow on what is the perception regarding capitalism/"extreme capitalism" - more likely would be something like : full privatization of public services, banned labor unions, eventually sort of coordinated harassment of "leftist thinkers" and so on ... somehow sort of Chile during Pinochet rule ?

I still remember my first play against the great Riku Riekkinen, when he gave up Europe and proceeded to win before it scored.

I don't get how Brush War could put so much influence in any country, as I understand the card, you just replace opponents influence with yours.

I'm quite a newbie in TS.

Italy at 6/9 after an "influence war" ... then Brush War makes it 15/0.

Yes, but you keep any influence you had in the first place. So if you had 6 influence and he had 9 influence, you would get 15 influence with a successful Brush War.

Ok, I failed to understand that you add opponent's influence to your own.

Thanks

I think I've seen two sides respectively having 20+ influence in the same country. West Germany can go high if total control of Europe is at stake.

But of course such bidding wars over one country going that high is exceptional. Whereas a big Brush War number in say Italy or Thailand is more common.

Just a random side-question; did you have Defectors in you're hand when you headlined De-Stalinization?
