Surprisingly there is only one road border crossing between India and Pakistan at Wagah

Every day there is an elaborate border closing ceremony that is rather entertaining, especially when you remember that these two neighbors are not always friendly. There is definitely an element of rivalry in the proceedings.

Marching like that needs a higher movement allowance, with a road movement bonus.

All the stomping was within yards of the border, it's an immobile attack

Makes you wonder about the history of the whole affair. I would love to witness this ceremony in person.

Here's a fusion of the India-Pakistan border ceremony and Monty Python. From Michael Palin's Himalaya travel program:

Apprently, the ceremony has been toned down in recent years.

First thing I thought of. Seems they never figured out when the Brits were joking and when not, and just copied everything.

What also amazes me is that for 2 rivaling countries they choose the same uniform. At least they both bought their head wear in the same funny hat department.

I think you'll find that the uniforms, drill, ritual etc. all has it's origins in the days of the British Raj
