So now that Facebook has bought the 3d goggles company Ocular Rift. What do you think they will do with it?

They will have you tag and "Like" real-life objects. Then when everyone else looks at said object through the device, they will see everyone else who has done the same.

Also, Farmville and other dumb games brought out into the real world through the device.

Don't forget collecting all video data it gets from the world around you and using that for ads.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Everyday object already speak to me—I don't need them to do so explicitly sans capital letters, grammar, spelling and forethought.

No, I think it's Aqua Velva. When my great-uncle the drunk was finished with a drinking jag and trying to dry out, he thought he was being sneaky by chugging the Aqua Velva in the bathroom. At least he had nice smelling breath.

No, I think it's Aqua Velva.

Well, when I look at the Aqua Velva bottle through my Oculus Rift stinkhat it says "t0tallly drankible lol" along with an ad for boobs.

Everything in the world will have likes and comments. Too bad you'll only be able to see 6% of it, chosen randomly, unless you pay for promoted reality.

Just take the goggles off - I'm sure the setting to remove goggles in here somewhere - did they change this again?

Assuming they recover from the PR disaster, I think they will find a way to make themselves even more money than they know what to do with in a way that seems to suggest them giving double middle fingers to everyone.

Wait, these are going to be totally isolating, right? Not like Google Glass, where you can still see things around you...

I honestly have no idea what FB wants with this. It seems so weird. I read one financial article saying that there is no short-term justification for the sale price. It's a gamble that will go to $0 or pay off many years from now (when they hopefully know what they're doing with it).

I think they did it just to follow the competition (Microsoft? Sony? Google?).

I guess I'm getting here late:
What exactly is FarceBook? Are 3-D goggles replacing the View-Master device to view my stereoscopic images? And is Ocular Rift some kind of new diagnosis for a virtual splitting migraine headache (or is it just spelled oddly)? Anyway the combination sounds like bad company.

There is no PR disaster.

There is only a PR disaster on Reddit and some gaming sites that somehow believe that anyone that creates anything should do it for the "love of the game" so-to-speak and not for profit.

I'm no unfettered capitalist, but I recognize that being bought for 2 billion dollars is pretty much the best thing that could happen to the Oculus Rift folks personally and probably for the widespread adaptation of the technology.

To use an analogy that you will surely appreciate--where would Chipotle be without the investment from McDonalds? The same place Oculus Rift would have likely wound up--a much smaller market for the product. In fact, just like that situation, most folks probably a) haven't even heard of the company prior to the infusion/purchase of a larger more established brand and b) don't care either way.

I think they'll be fine.
