Anyone familiar?

A1 A2 A3
B1 B2 B3
C1 C2
D1 D2

I'd guess at:
A1 = Elizabeth I of England
C2 = Henry VIII of England
D2 = Francis I of France

If they're all Tudors, I'd guess Anne Boleyn is next to Henry (C1).

Catherine of Aragon maybe for the older woman (B3)?

Thomas More above right (A3) and Cardinal Wolsey in the middle (B2).

EDIT: On second thought, C1 D1 looks an awful lot like this portrait of Queen Elisabeth of France

EDIT: Ooh! and B1 must be Isabella of Spain!

The official press kit says C1 is Anne of Brittany.

Ah, you're probably right (Why is Machiavelli interested in visiting merchants?). I assumed at first that they were all English.

Well then, she looks nothing like her.

To avoid confusion: the depicted Elisabeth of Austria was Queen of France.

I would say A1 looks like a less stylized Elizabeth I than Mary Stuart. Does the official press kit release the identities of all the nobles?

No, it doesn't say at all. It's just that one of the file names is anne_de_bretagne_carte.jpg

Ah, I see. But yeah, I don't think the first one is Mary Stuart, since there are few portraits of her with that frilly thing around her neck (whereas it's almost a symbol of Queen Elizabeth I, and Queen Elizabeth I also had red hair). The red dress might indicate Mary Stuart but her face doesn't quite look like her either...

The mystery continues! If only the illustrators could pop by and say for certain who each was.

I'm thinking D2 is Cesare Borgia, although one of the portraits definitely supports your Francis I theory. Perhaps they are meant to be simply reminiscent rather than definitive.

D2 is definitely Francis I. The exact same portrait of him is used in Here I Stand.

B1 is queen Isabella the Catholic, I of Castile and the background is the city of Toledo.
