It occurred to me track this item on Amazon UK: 100 Grip Seal Bags 4 x 5.5 Inch 200g Strong Reusable Zip Lock

(EDIT: By track, I mean track the Amazon price on camelcamelcamel.com, which alerts me to bargains)

It's an item I buy every few years in bulk (I buy a dozen or so bags of 100 baggies), and previously I bought different sizes but have settled on this size as being good for most games. It's never sold by Amazon, too generic, always 3rd party sellers. And apart from 1 bag of a 100, I've never had any problems whichever supplier I used.

On tracking it, I see the price actually does fluctuate. It's running around £2 the 100 now including delivery, but has been as low as 98p a year ago.

The way things go these days, there's probably no real need for me to bulk buy, I can just get the couple of 100 whenever I want, so a price drop of 20% is hardly worth waiting for. But it's the kind of thing useful for a gamer to buy a load of and distribute them round their circle. Every gamer wants a bag of baggies.

So I wonder, are there other generic products on Amazon that might be worth tracking for gamers? Dice? Wooden bits?

I picked up a pack of these the other day: Handy Pocket Credit Card Size Magnifying Card- Slim Reading Lens x 5 . They've made reading teeny card text and rulebooks so much easier.

So are there other things that would be useful to keep an eye on?

Those very expensive foamboard cutting tools like these:

and maybe even foamboard / mount board / greyboard too.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone found an adjustable compartmentalised box without a hinge. That is, with a completely removable lid. I'd love to track the price of those, if I ever find one at a reasonable price in the UK.

I found one on Amazon.de once, but postage was ridiculous..

I buy mine from 'The Range', cut the hinges off and keep the lid closed with a rubber band.

edit: they are made of soft semi-transparent 'plastic' (poly-something) not that brittle completely clear stuff. This makes it relatively simple to cut with a junior hacksaw and trim with a craft knife. I'm going to try a hot blade (attached to my soldering iron) next time.

Well, I tried searching 'bondage tape' into The Amazon and found things that would normally be used to keep people away from the hobby, not to keep hobbyists well-stocked!

Apparently it's the same stuff as "Hugo's Amazing Tape" but a LOT cheaper. Having said that, it's very difficult to get an idea of the quality / thickness of the ... specialist ...stuff

Right. I'm starting to begin to maybe partially understand that people here are (possibly) literally talking about tape used for bondage. Gotcha.

Oh yes, for sure: it has many ... legitimate ... purposes. Much better than rubber bands for holding boxes closed and wrapping decks. sticks to itself not to anything else.

Hi Thomas,

Do you have links to the above boxes? I have yet to find any box in Amazon UK or DE that is good and ships to Switzerland.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses! Lots of good ideas there.

If you can help me out by finding some links to sample products and I can go from there. Look on Amazon.DE too, if you know the German words for the products. If we buy from Amaozn.DE, these things will make good add-ons and keep the delivery costs low.

Card sleeves. Are they on Amazon in Europe?

Most useful were the boxes with 9 compartments in the first two images:
http://www.amazon.de/Sortimentskasten-EuroPlus-transp-stabil...
There are versions with 7 compartments and a single big compartment:
www.amazon.de/Sortimentskasten-EuroPlus-transp-stabiler-Schn...
http://www.amazon.de/Sortimentskasten-EuroPlus-transp-stabil...
(all three were available in a local home improvement store)

The small bead boxes of the fourth image are available here:
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...

The larger version (third image) was only available at a local hobby shop.

The very small boxes in the first image are branded "Really Useful Box", I got them from Staples, you might find them online, too.

These are the types of box I use many of:

http://www.therange.co.uk/hobby-box/craft-storage/the-range/...
http://www.therange.co.uk/tiger-a3-tuff-box/craft-storage/th...

They don't show the full range on the website though - there are about 5 different sizes some with moveable dividers: perfect for Caverna, as it happens.

They don't ship to Switzerland of course - but here are some ideas of what it might cost to have some kind BGGer ship them to you:

http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1967394/enoon?size=large

10kg in an e.g. 60x30x30 box would cost £22.99 to ship only £2 less for 3kg in a smaller box

I don't know if this is likely to be of interest to anyone, but I was looking for something to transport around my Arkham set with all the bits from a few expansions in. I've seen a few threads from the US commenting on how great cheap artists boxes are, and discovered that they aren't that cheap here and are often listed as pochade boxes, of which there are various kinds on amazon.

I actually went a different way, myself - accepting that I'd need to transport the game boards in a different box, I bought one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005NVXZXK/ref=oh_details... - it's not great quality, but it looks quite good; I stack the cards in piles inside with layers of corrugated cardboard to act as dividers, and I stand the larger cards up against one side (I've trimmed the corrugated cardboard to fit) - I then put all of the tokens in little velvet bags I picked up cheaply via ebay, and can transport everything in the one chest. It has the advantage of not taking up shelf space - it's currently standing on top of one of the bookcases in the front room.

I was just introduced to Corner-to-Corner elastic bands: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alliance-Rubber-Corner---Corner-Pack...

They are great for keeping game boxes closed when you're taking them to and from game nights!

They're also called X-bands http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0031RG2G0?tag=article-geekdo-21
Scroll down to see a range of suppliers and sizes.

Also, if anyone can tell me the useful sizes, please do because the measurements as listed baffle me.

Are you interested in all those cutters or just a few particular ones?

Also, identify the particular foam boards that would be useful. It's a topic outside my knowledge.

Is this the product? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AFA6KMW?tag=article-geekdo-21
(the top reviewer does mention boardgames).

Is that a good size, (width or length)? Can you find an example if there's a better product to track?

What are the equivalent storage boxes on Amazon UK? Do they stay consistent or is it a product that varies? That is, if I track one version today, will it be around in a year or more, or will it go redundant?

I've found Mayday sleeves (this one went from £2 to £22 a pack! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003Y7PY0C?tag=article-geekdo-21).

Are there other sleeves worth tracking? Is there a most popular size?

Personally, I'm mainly interested in these:
"Rabbet" (rebate) cutter
Straight/Bevel cutter
but other folks might want the other varieties - I'll let them speak for themselves though.

Also replacement Blades or
Replacement blades

I don't know if you need specific URLs or just product names.

As for foamboard, that's a very moveable feast - it comes in many different sizes. Although the larger sizes tend to be the most economic, some folks may not need a large pack of a large size. Having said that, excamples are:

5mm white A1 and, much more expensive but perhaps more aesthetically pleasing:
Black 5mm A1

Is that any use?
