What does the syndicate do with an event that is a Government Momentum?

For example, the event card S.I.M. came up and the syndicate bot had the chance to take the event. There was no halo so no special instructions. Normally syndicate would take the shaded event, in this case the Momentum, but I don't think the bot would have any real benefit from it.

So I ended up ruling it as an ineffective event and thus they went with Op + Special Activity.

Would you play it like that or would you let the syndicate activate the Government Momentum?

The bot takes the event if no halo and the govt is a non player. The "no effect"-consideration only applies for govt momentums if the next card is propaganda. As for syndicate not benefitting, I guess the idea is that syndicate relies on govt keeping their casinos free from thieving guerillas and SIM certainly helps toward this.

Hi Rodi,

I guess the syndicate plays the momentum event.

See 8.1 bullet 4.
It says the NP factions only play events "that would have an effect and for momentum events".

Hope this will clear things up.

I guess you guys are right and I played it wrong.

Would I've played it correctly I might have been able to win at the third Propaganda card, but the bots "luckily" managed to snatch enough points from me to miss out on this 3rd propaganda victory. angry

Now I think I have to really keep an eye out for the syndicate, because I think they might be in a situation to get ahead.

I have been quite Lucky (I think). Government bot and DR bot have been low on resources for quite some time now and syndicate was not really in my direct way.

From Oerjan, bot Oracle:

Quote:
"What does the syndicate do with an event that is a Government Momentum?"

It plays it, unless:
- there's an Event Instruction telling it not to (e.g. MAP)
- it is 2nd Eligible and Govt is a player
- the next card is Propaganda

As the note under 8.0 says: "Non-player Factions do not act only in their own direct interest. Like players, they sometimes help, somtimes hurt, one another." MobBot will often support GovBot; sometimes it even helps player Government a bit

Personally, I love the quirkiness that the bots can bring to a game. They can definitely be dangerous if left to their own devices.

Thanks Jeff & Oerjan.

I guess I should let the bots play like they do and not worry so much if something doesn't seem right to me or not the optimal play or something.

When Oerjan was developing the bots, I learned to play a few games with them before we made any changes. In the vast majority of the cases, the bots worked well to create a challenging game situation for players. Occasionally it produces a complete head-scratcher, but surprisingly often the bots come up with an inventive play that a human player probably would not have tried.

I'm glad to see this question has already been posed and answered since I just had the identical issue (Syndicate bot / S.I.M. event) arise in a game!
