Very cool update. Thank you for letting us know more about your life. Now for the real question, what is the next wargame title you are working on?

Can't say that I understand it, but am glad you are now the person you feel you should always have been. Still looking forward to your further designs.

Thanks for posting this update- it's great to hear that your relative quiet was not due to any ongoing illness/injury/etc.

Your game designs consistently show a willingness to chart a new and uniquely personal (and modern) path.

Now, it appears that this extends directly from your own integrity & philosophy; and, that you're extremely brave.

Here's wishing you the very best with your life changes.

I had been concerned, being a big fan of your work, that your ailment was life threatening. As serious and life altering as sexual reassignment is, I am glad to hear that I was mistaken. Congratulations not just on your decision to make the transition, which must have weighed heavily on your mind for some time; but also for your candor.

That having been said, and speaking purely from a selfish place: when will BaM 2nd Ed/Stavka see the light of day?!

My first thought was that you are a day early for April Fool.

Love your work. Good luck in all.

I have to agree that it's a great photo, particularly since it seems to be in the "stare into the webcam" genre.

BTW, I'm sure that this was scary to reveal in public. I'm not sure that "not life threatening" is quite accurate, given the association of suicide with the stress of gender identity issues, but I think that we can be glad for reactions like, "A sex change operation? That's ALL? How could you worry us like this?"

Finally, I understand that you can't force a passion for game design. If it's not where you are, we'll all mourn the loss to us, it's not about us. Anyhow, I'd almost rather have things end with three works of genius than add mediocrities.

Yay, Rachel!

What a courageous post - well done!

You're still one of the best damn wargame designers - THAT hasn't changed! Get to work on STAVKA ;^)

Big hug!

All the best in everything.

I don't think I can add anything else to this long list of good wishes, but just wanted to add my message to this thread as my personal support. I hope this becomes the longest thread in BGG ever.

Unfortunate to time this on the eve of April Fools Day. I think a lot of people are going to be unsure what to make of the announcement for a few days until the 'holiday' has passed.

After almost a year of silence following Rachel's cryptic announcement regarding her health, I feared the next post to her blog would be a death notice. Turns out it's a birth announcement. What wonderful and encouraging news this is.

Reading the thread title, I was fearing the worst. But now, the ranks of female wargame designers got a huge boost!

Rachel, all the best going forward.

I'm curious about your avatar: Is that Saint Dominic? Been reading a book on Dominican spirituality and find myself much-inspired.

An unexpected but pleasant update. I'll admit, as the father of two daughters, that my first thought was, "Hooray! One more prominent female in the boardgame/wargame community."

Best wishes to you, and I'm glad things have worked out for the best for you.
