With a single copy of Battlelore 2nd edition, the 4 players variant rules:
1) play with exactly 4 number of players (3 players do not work)
2) The game plays in teams: team DAQAN(player1 and player2) versus team UTHUK(player3 and player4).
3) Each player in a team receives a total of 25 muster points.
4) Distribute the deployment cards evenly between the 4 players.
5) Each player in a team can ONLY musters and plays 2 types of units.
6) TEAM DAQAN: player1 plays "Rune Golems" and "Yeoman Archers"
7) TEAM DAQAN: player2 plays "Riverwatch Riders" and "Citadel Guard"
8) TEAM UTHUK: player3 plays "Flesh Ripper Brutes" and "Blood Harvesters"
9) TEAM UTHUK: player4 plays "Obscene" and "Viper Legion"
10) TEAM DAQAN: player1 & 2 secretly decides WHO plays "ROC WARRIOR" (in addition to the 2 unit types above), then the other player receive the "Command Tent" option. Alternatively, if nobody wants to use the "ROC WARRIOR", then they will secretly decide who uses the "Command Tent" (or NOT use it).
11) TEAM UTHUK: player3 & 4 secretly decides WHO plays "Chaos Lord" (in addition to the 2 unit types above), then the other player receives the "Command Tent" option. Alternatively, if nobody wants to use "Chaos Lord", then they will secretly decide who uses the "Command Tent" (or not to use it at all).
12) During Gameplay, players alternate turns in this manner: player1 -> player3 -> player2 -> player4 -> player1 ....repeat....
13) every rule in the game stays the same (yes, every player moves and attacks the same as original rules, each player take/use command cards and lore cards the same as original rules), except: RULE(a) a player can ONLY move/attack with the units pre-assigned to them in (6),(7),(8),(9),(10),(11) above; and RULE(b) in a player's turn, this active player can SPEND 1 LORE TOKEN for EACH UNIT belonging to his TEAM that he DOES NOT controls, giving authority to his team partner player to move/attack as indicated in the command/lore card of this active player.
14) Game Victory Condition and Goals are the same as standard rules.

This seems really interesting. I have been trying to think about how to play with more than 2 so I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for the post!

I haven't played a 2-player game of BL2E yet, but 1E has a rule set called "Reluctant Allies" (found in the Epic expansion, pg. 8 - here's a link to that rulebook) that is very similar to what kaden detailed for his 4-player variant for 2E. One of the few differences is that instead of paying lore to order units from the ally's forces, it would cost two orders instead of one. Also, the term "reluctant" referred to the fact that the overall winner of the game was the ally on the winning side that had the most victory banners to their credit - which could lead to some interesting decisions, if it was of import to those involved.

I haven't been able to play many of the Reluctant Allies scenarios for 1E, but the few I did were very fun - don't see why this mode of play wouldn't work just as well for 2E.

NOTE: Remember, each player in a team has his own hand of command cards and lore cards, these cards do NOT share between players of the same team.

Additional AVOID-player-elimination-RULE: if ALL UNITS of one of the two players from the same team have been completely eliminated/killed, then the eliminated player can spend 4 LORE TOKENS(as long as his TEAM has 4 or more lore tokens left) to resurrect ONE UNIT (one and only one unit - but remember that 1 unit can contain multiple figures) in HIS TURN, position this new unit at a space at any EDGE of the board (in the SIDE of his team, left/right/bottom), and continue playing with his command/lore cards as usual. Of course, if both players from the same team are eliminated in the same round, this team loses the game immediately, even if they have sufficient lore tokens for resurrection, because they cannot "wait" until their next turn (which is next round) to use lore tokens for resurrection.
