----------------------------------------------------------

Hello PnP-ers,

I just had a thought while looking through microbadges available across BGG, and for PnP in particular.

I figured there are already series of microbadges for the number of games you own, reviewed and rated, and the number of images, reviews, microbadges, files, geeklists and uploads you've done. And even the amount of geekgold collected and spent, and the number of thumbs you've given threads.

But nothing for the number of games you've made yourself. I've only PnP'd one really tiny game, and that took me long enough that I'm somewhat in awe of those of you who craft lots of them.

So I wondered if you'd be interested if I was to make a set of microbadges something like this. Doesn't have to be this image, but I figured there are so many variations on pairs of scissors already out there that a printer might be a nice alternative for Print-and-Play.

[Arbitrary numbers... see below]

- Copper Crafter: I have crafted 5 PnP games

- Silver Crafter: I have crafted 10 PnP games

- Gold Crafter: I have crafted 50 PnP games

- Platinum Crafter: I have crafted 100 PnP games

- Herculean Crafter: I have crafted 200 PnP games

- Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

Three questions:

1) Would these be the sorts of things you'd like to get hold of?

2) Is the picture ok? Or do you want more scissors after all? Or a different make of printer?

3) If "yes", then what numbers would be reasonable for the different stages?
Clearly they need to be achievable at the lower levels but really very very hard for the top ones. I don't know how many of these the expets here can make - perhaps 500 is just a weekend's work; perhaps it'd take 20 years to do... you'll know better than me.

And of course they couldn't be system awarded microbadges... I don't know if there's scope for them being manually awarded (like the games-in-collection ones); I suspect you'd just have to buy them with 8 GG and trust people to be honest when they got them. And decide for yourselves whether crafting 200 of the same game is herculean, or whether it has to be a number of different ones.

If a number of you like the idea, then I could progress it and see if the microbadge community like them enough to allow me to submit them (both in terms of the concept and the actual image ... some of the bigger numbers are hard to squeeze in!).

And if you almsot all don't like the idea, then I'll scrap it

I imagine there are

- people-who-design-games-to-be-PnP'd

and

- people-who-take-those-designs-and-PnP-them

I was sort of aiming these at the second group, because I suspected that the first group would be only a very small number of people. But I may be wrong on that...

I like em. They'd go with my others. I would buy the Herculean Crafter, not sure how long to get to the Ultimate Crafter.

Great idea! Happy with the printer symbol; the ratio for each level is great because it will motivate newbie PnP peeps (such as myself) to get started with a few and get something for it!

Hmmm... but would some games, Merchant of Venus for instance, still just count as 1 game crafted?

I imagine yes, they would (though it's ultimately up to you how you count!)...

...but bear in mind after a recent request, there's already now this pair:

mb - I have crafted Merchant of Venus

mb - I have crafted Magic Realm

So in terms of gauging the numbers...

...I'm guessing there aren't many people on BGG who have crafted as many games as you?

Just want to make sure that if I make them with the numbers above, you don't get 50% of people all getting herculean instantly.

(BTW, I saw your geeklist... wowzers. wow)

I'm only a Gold Crafter but I deserve a "I have already tagged more than 400 games or threads as potential PnP projects" microbadge

The microbadge peer review process has suggested a few alterations for consideration.

Examples in the poll below based on the "ultimate" one, but they'd all be similar.

(x) - the original

(a) - a different model of printer

(b) - same as (a) but slightly different number quality

(c) - wide paper

(d) - dark paper

Let me know which you think looks nicest if you were to buy one.

Poll: Design choice
Which of these is the best design?
If you like more than one, tick more than one.

- (x) - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

- (a) - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

- (b) - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

- (c) - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

- (d) - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

Can you change the paper to full sheet label paper? That's what I use when crafting.

I like the idea too. I have to be past the gold level for sure. Probably gaining on Platinum.

Thanks. Not too sure if there are a lot. I've been making PnP games since I discovered the geek, in fact that's what brought me here but there must be a few. I'm fairly sure there's at least one Ultimate crafter out there.

I like the original printers, nice and simple and clear, with the clearer numbers option c has, definitely not d, too dark and numbers are hard to read again.

tuskel,
sincerely

P.S. If I think about it, I might just get to Gold Crafter... I have to count my games (what about homebrew?)

Putting together feedback from the peer review process (that the newer style of printer is required) and the feedback from the poll (that the wide paper is best), I'll go with the images below, and the numbers 5, 10, 50, 100, 200, 500 as before, unless any other changes turn out to be necessary

Sadly I don't think I can do you it with label-paper without it getting too complex

Will report back as and when they get approved. Usually takes a couple of weeks.

As luck would have it, I just happened to get the final improvements for these done, and got them submitted, a few hours before the latest round of approvals, so they got approved nice and quickly.

These are all now ready to get:

mb - Copper Crafter: I have crafted 5 PnP games

mb - Silver Crafter: I have crafted 10 PnP games

mb - Gold Crafter: I have crafted 50 PnP games

mb - Platinum Crafter: I have crafted 100 PnP games

mb - Herculean Crafter: I have crafted 200 PnP games

mb - Ultimate Crafter: I have crafted 500 PnP games

Enjoy

Related to these, there are now two new ones available.

mb - I think of ideas for new PnP projects

mb - I need a couple more hours in the day to finish my PnP projects!

Thanks for making these mb! They looks good.

However, I thought each mb was linked to their respective page, so I purchase the wrong badge cry
