A couple of asks:

First, I don't know much about video games and I was wondering what the Grognards play. I'd like something heavy, with some decent simulation value. Topically it needs to be historical, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a wargame (it could also focus on politics, economics or social factors)

Second, does anyone know of a board wargame focusing on an ahistorical Pas-de-Calais Allied landing?

For video games that are even vaguely wargamish,
I like the Paradox line - Europa Universalis, Victoria,
and Crusader Kings. Heart of Iron also looks good, but required
too much attention for the WWII period.

These have all gone through multiple revisions - in many cases,
I'm not sure I prefer the most modern versions that I've seen.

Pas de Calais by John Schettler

(just got this to complete the France portion of his West War series).

What Enrico says plus I'd add the Command Ops series (Panther games), any of SSG's titles and Gary Grigsby's War in the East, all at Matrix.
