Hi, I am looking for examples of games involving Naval Warfare game mechanics - like the old wizkids pirates of the caribbean game, for instance. There is some overlap with Space Naval warfare, so feel free to also include those if they are relevant.

I am especially interested to know about unique or fun game mechanics that you can remember from these games, particularly those related to combat - formation, maneuvering, and firing arcs.

Thanks for your help

Task Force has a double blind system were you have to actually find the enemy before you could engage him.

It was my impression that the X-Wing minis game is more akin to aerial dogfighting combat than formation-based capital ship combat that I am looking for.

Also, do any of the mentioned games have mechanics related to fleet formations?

And are there any aspects of the listed games which you particularly enjoyed?

Sails of glory has a lot of what you're talking about.

Battlefleet Gothic was a decent (and fairly naval-feeling) space combat game from Games Workshop. The rules are freely downloadable from the GW site.

If you're interested in space combat with capital ships then you need to go old school

I'll see your "Leviathan" and raise you "Star Fleet Battles" - even older.
