I recently put together new aircraft cards for Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Angels 20 and thought that a similar treatment might work for Mustangs. I eventually plan to do all the planes, but wanted to make sure that these were on the right track. I'm also considering a chit draw for damage vice the die roll. Thoughts?

The original Mustangs components aren't bad, with all the stats printed on the counters. That said, I prefer using Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Angels 20 miniatures with dice in the flight stands to represent speed and altitude. The cards are just an easier way to track the game without using the player aid cards.

Mustangs has an expansion counter sheet that's pretty hard to come by. The scans are posted here on BGG, but you're probably better just picking up a copy of The General Vol 30 No 5. It's got stats for most planes (and most variants of those planes).

In terms of game play, this fits somewhere between Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Angels 20 and Check Your 6!. A20 is the fastest, with a lot of shooting and position changes. Ranges are great and each move is plotted in CY6!, and I really like the way pilot experience is handled--Aces can change their moves (a little) based on the moves selected by lesser pilots. Mustangs has impulse movement and ranges are much shorter. You roll opposed, modified d10 for attack/defense, so hot (and cold) dice can really make the difference.
