My co-worker has expressed an interest in board games but she's unfamiliar with most everything produced since the 1980's. I brought Jaipur and she loved it. She loves word and trivia games and she does own Bananagrams. I want to bring a new game to play during lunch but I don't typically play word or trivia games. Can you help recommend a game?

Here's the criteria:

Word or trivia game
Easy to teach
Plays in 1/2 hour
Compact

Thank you

We've really enjoyed Typo for this very thing. It's simple enough, but there is some strategy involved once you get a feel for what's going on.

Another game that has been a hit during lunch is Carl Chudyk's Rootword. Once you grasp the main mechanic, it becomes a nice little interactive word game. Very highly recommended.

Quiddler - kinda like a cross between Scrabble and Rummy

Word on the Street - quick-playing party game, that also plays well with just 2 players

Dabble - spelling rows of words (hopefully quicker than your opponent) with letter tiles

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

Came to suggest paperback. Not received it yet, but looks like it could get the best of both worlds for you and her.

There is no such thing as a model or ideal Canadian. What could be more absurd than the concept of an "all Canadian" boy or girl? A society which emphasizes uniformity is one which creates intolerance and hate. Pierre Elliott Trudeau

I have to put in a +1 for Quiddler as well. It plays faster than you might expect for a game that goes 8 hands, has simple rules and is inexpensive, especially since it often appears at thrift stores.
