How does this compare to other nautical games such as Archipelago, pirates cove, or Jamaica?

Um. It isn't a nautical game. Think Mayflower as bringing settlers to a new land. This game is about developing that land. The ships basically just bring more settlers.

I dont know about Pirates Cove or Jamaica-but with Archipelago and Keyflower you lay down hexes and there is a worker placement aspect, as well as some issues with resources but...really pretty different games.

Archipelago is a Gordian Knot that never got untied-it has terminal issues with both the basic game design and the rulebook....

Keyflower is a gem.

Pirate's Cove is a light hearted pirate game where you go around collecting the most treasure and fighting one another. Jamaica is a pirate-themed racing game.
