Allen: Contingency planner
Amie: Researcher
Ginge: Medic
Nikki: Dispatcher

We played what turned out to be a very close game of Pandemic. We included five epidemic cards, which is the standard difficulty to the game; I would have included six, but my gaming group hadn't played the game in months. Although we didn't draft my favourite role, the Quarantine specialist, we did get the Researcher and the Dispatcher; which synergies very well, as the Dispatcher can pull players together while the Researcher can easily move cards between players.

We had an early epidemic card appear, leading to an early outbreak in Kinshasa. After Amie had placed a research centre in Istanbul, Ginge was able to clear up this mess in Africa quickly, as he was the Medic; he also drew the 'Government Grant' card, allowing him to Build a research centre in Hong Kong. I replayed the card with my Contingency Planner action, and built our fourth research centre in Buenos Ares.

We now had an even spread of research centres, and started focussing on passing cards around to win the game. Black cards did not appear until late in the game, and we had a frantic dash to get the cards to Amie; who managed to get to our research centre in Hong Kong to win the game. There were only four cards left to draw in the central deck, which equates to two turns; and the game was won with only two outbreaks.

Very nice. If it's not a close win, you are doing something wrong

What matters in life is not the triumph nor the struggle but the triumph by tie breaker.

I know it' a family game but, like Forbidden Island, I'm still looking for my first lost with any player configuration. Not including all epidemic cards is just a walk in the park. Next time, we'll play with 3 more infected cities (3-2-1) from the start but I'm also eager to try without roles (though I presume this will be a step too much and probably impossible without synergies). Does the expansion, like SOC, makes the game more of a challenge? Any good idea to crank it up?
