I'm on hold with their office, and the repeated message keeps threatening that someone will help me momentarily.

I don't want to be helped momentarily - meaning "for a moment".
I want to be helped shortly - meaning "soon", and for as long as I need.

Next I'm expecting them to say they "literally" can't wait to take my call.

*sigh*

This is only newsworthy because it's the DoE. Which will shortly be teaching my daughter grammar . . .

3: at any moment : in a moment

Looks like you owe the DoE an apology.

In your defense, some dictionaries list this as a North American variant meaning, but since you and the NYC DoE are in North America, they are using the word correctly.

Damn my exceptional education in an English school (in actual England . . .)

Of course, this is the same dictionary that now lists "figuratively" as a meaning of "literally" . . .

If it falls on me and pins me underneath it, does that still count as seizing the day?

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

It probably also lists "infer" and "imply" as synonyms.... shake

I'm actually a little sad that a local car repair shop went out of business. They always drew my nerd rage for their sign:

"Specializing in Foreign and Domestic"

And here I was thinking that New York actually had a Department of Ed. I figured it was a legacy of Mayor Koch.

"Those that can't do..."

I'm constantly shaking my head in disgust at the message board outside my kid's school...

...they always put the ampersand on backwards.

Makes sense. They don't work on alien vehicles.
