Hi everyone,

I am a new poster (hopefully I am following all rules, etc. ) to the site.

I joined mostly because I am a lover of games. I had been using pogo.com to cure many of card/board game cravings. however, I have grown very tired of the player base, as well as the Java-based platform which caused the game to crash on a non-insignificant basis (I was/am a huge fan of poker [though I don't much play online anymore], spades, hearts, pinochle, and chess. I also have several "family-style" card games that I play in person with friends and/or family).

Basically, my question is, what sites would be good for playing these types of games? I've checked out yahoo games, as well as about 5 other sites (that I can't even remember anymore frankly; I tend to try like one new site per month and give up). Basically, where do you play games with random humans (computer/phone/in person), what site (or app or in-person site) do you specifically use, and why? Just trying to get an idea of how to be able to play games more often when I'm feeling the craving!

Thanks guys; sorry for the long post .

Also you can look for Brettspielwelt. the (probably) most played game there is Tichu, another card game, you might enjoy.

If you like playing Diplomacy, the best place IMHO is:

http://usak.asciiking.com/

For Machiavelli go to his other site:

Yup there are a LOT of them, but these two are probably best to get your feet wet - both have a good selection of games and aren't too tough to figure out how to use.

BoardGameArena is great for live play, and Yucata is best for turn based (with email notification) play.

Another +1 for BoardGameArena. Love the interface and the selection of games, and people have always been friendly to me. (You can't always find an opponent for the less popular games, though.)
