HI All,

I'm not rules handy right now, but this situation came up while playing Hoplite at GMT West last weekend. As you see, the Spartan phalanx is in contact with three Athenian phalanxes. Two of the Athenian phalanxes have just joined the battle, but only half of their frontage is in contact with the Spartan phalanx.

My opponent and I determined that the unit ratio (used for column shifts on the combat table) was 3:1, but I wasn't sure.

Either way the Spartans were in trouble.

Any answers?

Thanks, Kris.

3:1, I`d say. Whenever double-hex units are involved (and only them), You can simply count the units involved. Easy

Spartans are indeed in trouble... Hope that Myronidas got killed in a subsequent combat?

He did not, but we had a cataclysmic end to the game. Suddenly, in one turn both our armies fell apart. Final score: -13 to -15!
