First off…this quest is boring. No real strategy, get allies in play early, keep 1 or 2 resources on Bilbo before going to Stage 2. The enemies are not too worrisome, nor are the locations. Since I found all the Troll Cave Treasures I will use the same 3 heroes and said treasures for the next 5 quests.

Turn 1:
add a Resource to Thorin Oakenshield 1, Ori 1, Nori 1, Bilbo Baggins 1
Attach Sting to Bilbo
draw Gloin
Attach Legacy of Durin to Ori 0
Commit all heroes, Willpower = 9
reveal Cave Entrance, Staging Threat =7
add 2 Progress to The Mountain Pass - 2
Travel to Overhanging Rock, remove a Resource from Bilbo Baggins to look at top 2 cards,
move Dwarven Tomb to hand, We Are Not Idle to Discard Pile
Refresh, Threat = 30

Turn 2
add a Resource to Thorin Oakenshield 2, Ori 1, Nori 2, Bilbo Baggins 1
draw The Galadhrims Greeting
Play Erebor Record Keeper, Ori 0, Threat Level =29 (-1), draw Veteran Axehand
remove a Resource from Bilbo Baggins to look at top 2 cards, take and attach Orcrist to Thorin

Reveal 2nd Cave Entrance, Staging Threat =6

No reason to linger once I have 3 allies that can die to kill off the Stone Giant, plus I don’t want a 2nd one to show up.

Turn 4
add Resources to Thorin Oakenshield 2, Ori 1, Nori 1, Bilbo Baggins 2
draw A Test of Will and Dori
Attach and use Steward of Gondor to Ori 3, Thorin 0, Ori pays for Dori, Threat Level =27, draw Ancient Mathom
Commit Nori & Bilbo Baggins Willpower = 4
reveal More Like a Grocer discard all Resources from Bilbo Baggins
add 3 Progress to explore Cave Entrance
add 1 Progress to The Mountain Pass -8
Fili dies as he defends Stone-Giant, Stone-Giant shadow
Attack with Ori, Thorin Oakenshield, Dori, Gloin, Bifur, 11 Damage to kill Stone-Giant

I wanted to put that Mathom on the active location, but I did not want to be without a spirit resource incase I needed A Test of Will. Bye-Bye Stoney.

Add The Great Goblin to staging area
Spend 1 Baggins resource to not reveal 1 card, reveal Grip, grab! Pinch, nab! (no effect) and

Bifur heroically dies as he defends The Great Goblin, Goblin Miners shadow
Discard Goblin Driver, add it to the staging area.
Dori and Thorin Oakenshield avenge him by adding 7 damage to The Great Goblin
Refresh, Threat = 29

So close to killing that thing.

Turn 6
add Resources to Thorin Oakenshield 4, Ori 6, Nori 2, Bilbo Baggins 1
draw Lure of Moria (forgot to draw 2nd card)
Play We Are Not Idle and then Lure of Moria (Thorin 1) exhaust the 5 dwarves, add 5 resources to Nori 7, and ready them and forgot to draw a card
Play 2 Dwarven Tombs to retrieve A Test of Will and play Kili, Nori 2
Threat Level = 28, draw and play Gandalf, Ori 1
Gandalf kills The Great Goblin
Commit Gandalf Gloin Dori Thorin Oakenshield Ori Nori Bilbo Baggins Willpower = 16
reveal Goblin Bent-Swords surges adds The Goblins Caves, Staging Threat = 10

You can tell I was just going through the motions, I forgot to draw cards a couple time, mainly because I did not need any.

I thought it was funny after a swarm of goblins come rushing at me I draw Chaos in the Cavern.

So, this is just a grind it out type quest. I think this is a great quest to test a deck on but other than that I don’t see myself playing it much.

Yeah, I agree with your thoughts. To date, this is the one and only LotR scenario that I beat the first time I played. Moreover: since I thought maybe I was lucky, I repeated it immediately and, to my surprise, I defeated it in 7 turns! It took me just 3 turns to kill the Great Goblin and finish the second part!

Sadly, I think this scenario is broken soblue
