There is a lot of speculation about what Huge ships will be fielded by the empire, and the fact that there is a dearth of iconic designs to fill that role.

With Disney dismantling the EU, and most of the ships no longer canon anyways, they could release newly designed ships. How would everyone feel about that?

Poll
Would you buy newly designed ships for X-Wing?
Sure! Imperials with R2's, Rebels with cloaks...the possibilities...
No Way! I don't even like the EU ships on the market now!

Your poll answers don't seem to be related to your question or your comment.

How would I feel about newly designed ships for X-wing?
- Sure, as long as they preserve the look and feel of both the existing Star Wars universe and the X-wing miniatures game. Unfortunately, I don't know if Disney / Lucas Film would be open to this, especially with the suggestion that anything new is automatically "canon."

Do I think Imperials should have R2 units?
- No.

Do I think Rebels should have claoks?
- No (unless there is precedent for this that I am unaware of).

And what do existing EU ships have to do with new ships?

Seems a little poorly worded. I think some people who wouldn't want new ships designed by FFG don't necessarily hate EU ships.

I agree. When I read the poll I had a "wha?" moment. No offense intended.

This poll makes no sense how the options are worded...

As far as FFG designing new ships I'm all for it as long as the new ships would make sense. If they did new ships based on the Star Wars Old Republic MMO that'd be really cool as in some ships from the Clone Wars tv show. Lots of room there. They have already gone outside the movies with Wave 4 and I think we will see more.

I miss the middle option. There are only two.

I dont like either option for this poll. Im fine with EU stuff, and no I dont think FFG should make up their own designs.

I prefer it to remain as Core centric as possible.

Why? Imperial R2 units are canon - R2-Q5 and appeared in Return of the Jedi.

But back to the original questions - I think what makes X-wing so appealing is how authentic it is. If they start making their own designs then they might as well just scrap the whole star wars theme and just make a space combat game...... and lets face it, it wouldn't be that successful.

I'm good with original designs if they are done well and with the correct feel of the original trilogy. Which im hesitant about as there have been too many awful EU designs made for me to trust in that.
As for Imps having R type units? Why not, they were running around all over the Death star so we can assume they would have them on smaller ships. Obviously not TIEs although once they started making hyper capable ones then perhaps on those and perhaps the Starwing and Scimitar.
Unless the Imperials didnt trust the idea of an info packed droid being on a smaller vessel that could get captured, or the idea of droids being used as infiltration methods.
Which, if one was lookin for one, would be a valid enough reason not to give them to the Imps
As for cloak i dont think it would impact on the smaller ships but Piett in ESB (i think it was Piett) didn't seem surprised by what he thought was the use of a cloaking device, just that he didnt think a ships of the Falcons size could have one.
So possibly, just guessing here, the Corvette could equip one

Um, because we've run out of ships from the movies? Or the expanded universe? Other anywhere else?

I supposed I could see it in Wave 30, but probably not sooner...

According to the archives the R2-Q5 unit was used on both Vader's and
Palpatine's shuttle so I would have no issue with an R2 unit being used in conjunction with a Lambda-class shuttle or other hyperdrive equipped ship, I'm actually surprised it was not a unique card issued with the miniature.

The emperor trusted his R2 unit as he used it for keeping secret documents and messages, but you can imagine the escort both Vader and Palpatine would have when they were traveling by shuttle.

Also, the V-wing which was succeeded by the Tie Fighter used an Astro-mech droid but I believe these are no longer canon.

As for stealth - it's all about keeping balance and realism (if you can use such a word for science fiction) The rebels are a ragtag "terrorist" group (Yes I'm pro Imperial) so they shouldn't have the massive resources and technology available to the Imperial.

Yeah, the options should have been,

Would you buy newly designed ships for X-Wing?
Sure! ...the possibilities...
No Way! I don't even like the EU ships on the market now!
No Need, there are a hundred ships in the EU they could make.

I'll go with option C.

I'd be more interested in seeing them design some new pilots for existing ships, but I think I'd trust FFG to come up with some interesting non-canon Star Wars stuff. Really, anyhing that keeps us from getting The Sun Crusher or a Yuuzhan Vong faction would be alright by me.

Nope shake

Because most of the EU vessels were made after Ralph McQuarrie concept art!

The VSD for example.

The poll answers are designed to tilt results in that they evoke a reactionary response.

You might as well have said "Hey, would you like it if FFG did some dumb things to the EU?"

That being said, I trust FFG to design a game that fits the EU, even if they go off-script. I mean, cmon, there is some total crap in the EU depending how deep you want to dig. Why would those things be more canon than something the designers at FFG would invent?
