This is Karma! I happened to play 1989 Saturday with a friend. I also went to Berlin to see the wall coming down. Geez, has it been 24 years?

1989 is my choice for best game of 2012, in a very tough field.

I will use any extra tips to buy my first banana.

Top gesture Ted on your part and much thanks for the GG. Not long back from my annual visit to Berlin and just finished reading 1989 The Berlin Wall (My Part In It's Downfall) by Peter Millar. Really looking forward to the delivery of DOF big time!

Ted,

If your offer is still on, I'd love a micro badge.

I've played two games so far. Lost, as Dem, at the end of turn 7 in the first game.

Won, as Com, in the first round of turn 3. In this second game, my opponent played Stasi for the Ops value on turn 2, which let me see that he was to play Poland scoring. I played State Run Media first, taking him down one IP (to just below control status) in the 3 spaces he did control. So, he got no cards and I ended up at -13 VP. Then, I drew the Poland scoring card and began turn 3 playing it to win.

Big lesson learned: bury Stasi on Tiananmen track. The combination of Stasi and, in this case, State Run Media, was devastating.

Thanks for the game!

Actually, as the Democrat, it's usually better to play Stasi for Ops near the end of your turn to get it out of the deck. I usually play it last, or maybe second to last if my last card is a friendly card that I plan to play for Ops and don't mind revealing.

Re: Stasi, and free micro badge

Thanks, Ted.

And thanks, Bruce. I think my Dem opponent, seeing that was going to have to play the Poland scoring card, and having at the start of turn two 3 spaces in Poland under his control, should have scored promptly (even though I had 4 spaces in Com control). Then he could more safely play Stasi in his last or penultimate round. But, he played Stasi on his first or second round, and that set up the loss of control throughout Poland (from State Run Media) that cost him so dearly.
