I must say, I have looked at reviews and I'm pretty stoked.

So, if one should buy only warmachine or Hordes as a start, what would you recommend? Could someone make an elaboration of the differences etc?

Honestly, I think it just boils down to which factions you most like. Both games have factions that have similar play styles. I have Hordes because my game group has a heavy hordes influence. That was what drove me to choose Hordes first.

I say first because, eventually, I will have both.

This.
Rules-wise, the two games are literally identical, so just pick whichever theme floats your boat higher. Of course since they are cross-compatible then you might end up with both anyway.

I have heard (based on very few plays) that the warmachine factiones are more uniform than the hordes faction, and perhaps too similar to each other. Would you agree? Allthough I would miss my Menoth Zealots, this would lean me towards Hordes.

Hordes! I love them both, but if was just starting, I would get Hordes.

I have both but I love more warmachine than horde. It seems to me that there are more diverse factions. And these smoking warjacks

What's so great about it?

The level of diversity between the two is about the same.

I'd say go for whichever one you like thematically more.

Or both, you can often find them for pretty cheap.

I'm new to this game.

Warmachine and Hordes HC are two separate games or can they be mixed together?

Can i play a 4 players game with 2 Warmachine factions and 2 Hordes factions?

Which Wind of War cards and Locations have i to use there?
Thank you.

You can play them against each other just fine - they are essentially just different factions for the same game.

1st Player picks the Winds of War / Location deck for tournament play, but you can mix them together for casual play if you prefer (i.e swap the faction specfic location cards around).

The core set Winds of War are identical ruleswise to each other though, so it doesn't really matter too much which you use.
