The current issue of the Spielbox magazine (02/2014) includes a promo for Limes. The 6 Startcards provide a different starting situation for each player. When setting up the game, shuffle the Startcards and deal one card to each player. This will be the first card of their display. Then the game continues as usual.

Got it, this is one of my favourite Spielbox expansions I ever got. Abacus should do more of these for some of their other games. Thanks Matthias.

The expansion is also linked on BGG: Limes: Startcards Set A

P. S.: Let me know when and where I can get a "Set B"

Indeed I also uploaded some mobile pics earlier to fill the gap. Yours are better, thanks.

I've just ordered Limes and I was thinking about getting this expansion too. But after thinking about it a bit I wonder if the expansion 'breaks' the game. Perhaps some experienced players could give their thoughts.

Isn't one of the basic premises of the game (like Karuba) that each player has the same cards to work with each round? And doesn't this expansion break that premise by giving each player a different starting card?

If you want to play 100% competitive, you had better try out the other expansions (you can find them on my website).

Have fun!

Thanks for replying! But it's not necessarily about being 100% competitive.

In the base game, both players have the same 16 cards and therefore the same opportunity to win the game. That seems like a large part of the game to me. But if the first of the 16 cards is different, then both players don't have the same opportunity to win the game anymore - which is fine for me in general, but it doesn't seem in line with this game's principles.

So if card 1 is different, I don't see the point in calling out the numbers and playing the same cards 2-15. Each player could just draw randomly from their deck. This would make it a different game (closer to Carcassonne, further from Karuba), but it could also be fun to play it this way sometimes for variety.

Anyway, I've ordered the game and hope to get it next weekend! Looking forward to playing.

That is exactly how it was meant.

By the way: the other variants leave the game principle intact.
