Hi, we just played Mission 6.
The manual mentions that we have to resolve a new Event card each time a signal is revealed. However there are some Event cards that can reveal signals themselves.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Most notably the last Special Event reveals ALL signals.
This creates a vicious chain of Event card resolution.
We actually had 3 cards left in the deck when that event chain of DOOM (TM) happened and the deck emptied immediately, losing us the mission immediately. This felt wrong and I wanted to know if this is normal.
The event text makes it look like it is a good and helpful event but what actually happens is not helpful at all, that's why I'm posting here. Maybe Event cards revealing signals do NOT cause the resolution of more Event cards.
A similar thing can be said for the Devices that reveal signals too. Do they cause the resolution of Event cards too?
Which is the correct way to play this mission?
Resolve Event cards whenever a signal is revealed in ANY way, regardless if it was caused by another Event?
What about revealing via devices?
The seemingly good last event which essentially lost us the mission all by itself somehow feels that it needs some kind of errata or clarification that makes it actually good.
It doesn't state it in the rules, but my gut feeling is that the "reveal an event card" action is tied to the "agent reveals a signal" special rule for this scenario and would not apply when signals are revealed in other ways.
So I would probably play this that the event does not trigger any further event card draws, and that revealing a signal using a device also does not trigger the event card draw. You could argue that the flavor text for the final special event supports this idea: thematically, revealing the signal by hand (using the special rules) is not costing you an action, but it's costing you time (so the dwindling event cards represent the clock ticking away at your chances to catch the spy). However, if you are able to use your devices (or the GD agency's long-range sensors), you don't have to waste time; the signal is simply revealed.
Then again, Agent S has stated elsewhere that Mission 6 is intentionally left a lot up to luck as a sort of fate-based method for advancing to mission 7 or 8, so perhaps the brutal event deck bleed-out that you described is intentional.
The mission was designed like a quick "push your luck" adventure, with several "veteran tricks" to avoid an immediate failure, such as: paralyse the alien with grenade, block the T.P. , and so on...
And each Event provokes a reveal/draw effect...
after several messages about this mission we have decided to release a new SMART version that is less "luck" based. It should be online in the next few days.
Hope it will helps to increase the game experience
