LXG applied for a community grant with Telstra in March 2014 and I have just been advised that we have been successful. We will receive $1,200 to purchase board games.

I would appreciate any feedback from Brisbane gamers regarding 'hot' titles released over the past year that we should invest in.

A big thanks to Telstra for its support of the local community and making this happen. Grants usually go to sports clubs and it's good to see funding bodies acknowledging other forms of recreation.

Regards,

Keith

Awesome news. It is good to see other community groups getting a helping hand in these tough times.

I have some friends who used to go to LXG, not sure if they still attend. Are you still over at Cav High? I'd like to come along some time, but I get anxiety attacks and they usually keep me at home in my dungeon.

All the best with the funding though.

Hi Jimmy,

LXG moved from the School in April 2014. The Department of Education insisted that we double our current level of public liability insurance to $20 million which meant we would have to effectively double are annual insurance. I could understand it if we were involved in a high risk hobby.

We moved to the Queensland Contract Bridge Club at 67 Ipswich Road Woolloongabba - bigger venue at a cheaper rate and its air-conditioned! The next meeting is the 15th June. The web-site (with all this year's dates is at:

http://qlegs.wordpress.com/

You should try and come along - everyone is very friendly and eager to help people learn new games.

Regards,

Keith

A bureaucratic mix-up due to the game inflicted and extremely debilitating condition called "Analysis Paralysis"?

There's also the risk of paper cuts from cards

Thanks Keith, I'll have a look at that link. Bummer about the insurance, I recall a similar thing happening to our outside school hours care service, a few years back.

Hard to imagine a payout for a paper cut would be that much.

I see the new venue is close to laser force, awesome!

Hi Jimmy,

Re Laserforce, you may be interested to know that LXG started a Laserforce League last meeting. It takes place at 5.30pm every month after the club meeting closes.

Keith

Well done...again.

I don't know how "hot" it is but Rivet Wars is a fun short miniatures war game that might be a good introduction to table top minis games which I understand many LXG attendees enjoy.

I think Splendor and Machi Koro are so hot right now.

I think quite a few of them are listed on the LXG web-site at:

http://qlegs.wordpress.com/games/

There have been more added since the list was posted. LXG members can borrow these between meetings.

Keith

Here's a few suggestions then from looking at the list

Caverna: The Cave Farmers
Terror in Meeple City
Kings of Air and Steam ... haven't actually played this, but it looks cool!

You might already have these slightly older ones, but they weren't on the list and might be worth considering ...
The Castles of Burgundy
Firefly: The Game
Takenoko
Mice and Mystics
Galaxy Trucker
Discworld: Ankh-Morpork
