I guess it's hard to me to describe the kind of games I have interest in. So, take a look at what I have:

Carcassonne - Love it to death.
Settlers of Catan - Great game, but unsure about if I want the expansions.
Risk 2210 - Pretty good game, still takes a while to play.
Doom - More or less the same as Risk, but takes longer to play.
HeroScape - Takes too long to play.

On my shopping list are:
The Carcassonne expansions - They're inexpensive and I'm genuinely interested in each of them.
Bang! - Was recommended as a good larger group game, and seems like an interesting premise.
Saboteur - Likewise.
Through the Desert - The premise looks interesting and I've heard a lot of good things.
Ticket to Ride - Likewise.

So, what other games out there do you think should be added to my collection? Throw out any ideas here, I need to break the $150 mark for the free shipping on Cardhaus. Yes, I'm that petty.

You may want to look into Attika and Samurai. Both are simple and fun.

Since you like Carcassonne so much, you may also want to look into The Downfall of Pompeii. It's by the same designer. It's a little harder to find but it's a very fun game.

Enjoy!

greets,

well,

like the previous poster i would look at samurai also...but that's kind of assuming you would like through the desert.
my group owns both...and i really enjoy both. samurai i think is the better game though...however it only supports up to 4 players...so if ur group is typically larger than u have your answer.

i'm sure i'll get slack for this...but i would forgo the ticket to ride purchase...it's a bit too expensive...and honestly it seems like u already have ur intro game(s) in settlers and carcassonne. instead i would look at something like puerto rico the geek tried and tru favorite.

another gem that i think is a little underated is keythedral...it's something like settlers but really takes it to the next level and is good for 2-5 players.

bang is a sure thing purchase IMO, my group plays it as a filler during almost every gathering, and you really can't beat it for the price.

You really can't go wrong with any of those, but my two cents....get Ticket to Ride. Like SoC and Carcassonne easy rules and a lot of fun.

If you truly love the standard Carcassonne, and you plan on getting expansions, do yourself a huge favor and only get Inns & Cathedrals and/or Traders & Builders.

Read these amazing articles, if you haven't already, to find out why (parts two and three in particular):

Likewise, avoid the Settlers expansions. Keep the game simple. I also would not recommend Ticket to Ride. Through the Desert is a wise choice.

It sounds cliche, but if you want a 4-5 player game that is enjoyable and encourages discussion and discovery in your group, get Puerto Rico. The rules are fairly straightforward and it truly is an enjoyable game, even for relatively new eurogame players.

If you like Risk and Doom, Nexus Ops plays much faster.

Ticket to Ride or Nexus Ops are both solid suggestions. I'm a hardened gamer and I still find plenty of enjoyment in Ticket to Ride, and Nexus Ops is a nice, cleaned-up plastic warfest that plays in a very nice time frame (1.5 hours).

I'll second this. Save your money and keep it simple. I've found that the more you add to Carc beyond Cathedrals (and possibly Traders) the more watered down and further from what you originally enjoyed it gets.

I agree with this. But I also own King and Scout expansion which I use for the extra pieces that are very nice. The King and Scout extra rules are not too bad, but I rarely play them.

I would like to suggest Power Grid. It seems you and I have similar interests and I find this to be a great game. The time to play may be a little long for you and in that case I would suggest TTR. They are fundamentally different games, but about the same price. I think you would enjoy either.

It would help to know something about your normal gaming group. How many people are there on average? Are any or most of them against the idea of playing some heavier games?

The suggestions for Power Grid and Puerto Rico are both solid, but only if your group will actually give them a chance. Ticket to Ride and San Juan might be more their speed. In the case of TtR, the Marklin version is my favorite of the three, with the original coming in second.

If you have a group of hardcore gamers in the making, then definitely get something heavier and more complicated like Puerto Rico, Power Grid or Age of Steam. These games have a ton of replay value.

It's hard to address everyone's comments, so I'll try and get what I can remember:

On Carcassonne: I've looked at the expansions and all of them really, really do seem like things I would like. To mix up the game based on who I'm playing with, and to have really long, complex games seems appealing to me. The Princess and the Dragon, and the Count both look like things I'd really enjoy. Really.

Puerto Rico: I've heard a lot of people say it's a "gamer's game", and considering most of the people I play with aren't gamers, it'd be an odd choice. I can forsee getting it some time in the future, but from what I've heard it might be too complex.

Samurai: Looks good and I think I'll get it.

My groups: I typically play with two groups. My friends who live near me, are a very small group. It's usually either me and one more, or the 3 of us. They really enjoy Carcassonne and Settlers, and we often hang out just to play these games. On the other end of the spectrum, I also go to a Board Game Meetup group, which often has upwards of 9 people at the event. Most of them aren't interested in strategy-ish games, instead preferring party games and trivia games, which I'm not big on. Sometimes I can convince people to split into two groups. The group did enjoy Vegas Showdown, and a few people thought Carcassonne was "okay".

Power Grid looks odd, but interesting. I think I might add that one as well.

Alright. Cardhaus doesn't seem to have Through the Desert [anymore?] so I've now finally my order:

The Carcassonne expansions
Bang!
Nexus Ops
Saboteur
Samurai
Ticket to Ride

Thanks for your help, guys.
