Thieves. Mercenaries. Smugglers. Criminals. Anarchists.

You gave it a good run and stayed ahead of the law, but this new Security Overseer is the most efficient and brutal to hold the post in a long time. You were tried in abstentia, but it still took years to catch you.

Now, you've been caught. Your citizenship has been revoked. Your rights have been suspended. Your execution has been... postponed?

It seems HQ wants you alive. Specifically, somebody very rich and politically powerful wants you alive. Someone powerful enough to tell the police what to do. Someone who is essembling a very special team.

When you're rich enough you can do anything, and jump through any government hoop. But that takes time. And time is of the essence right now. There's no time to go through legal channels. Something has to be done, and it has to be done right now, and it has to be somebody who can do it even if its not legal. Someone who can't be traced back to HQ.

And so you're given an offer. You can face a public execution, or you can earn your citizenship back. Your unknown benefactor can get you off this world and out of police jurisdiction. You won't be able to come home, but you can spend the next ten years in military service and earn your citizenship back.

But first, you need to do something for him. Something that can't wait. Something that will need your unique skills.

Ready for an adventure?

Lol, sorry to leave you hanging. There was more to this, but i got distracted with work.

I just bought Battlestations in a BGG auction and I want to start playing with my local group, so this is the opening setting/adventure that I'm going with.

So far I have a crackerjack Human Pilot (smuggling, petty theft, public lewdness, reckless discharge of a firearm, treason), a pacifist Canosian Scientist (identity theft, petty theft, grand theft, burglary, tax evasion), and a tough Xeloxian Engineer (smuggling, petty theft, extortion, kidnapping, assault on a peace officer, public lewdness).

They've been given a small rebuilt scout ship (christened the "Resplendent Friendship") and a re-programmed combat droid named C4. The Canosian scientist has already gotten to work making upgrades to C4.

Hemloch wasn't always as it is now. It was once called Selvinah, before the Humans came and renamed everything. It was a bright blue/green world, swarming with life. Among the three worlds of the Stellar Republic, it was considered the most beautiful and sentient habitation was restricted to special tourist-domes so as not to spoil the natural environment. If we knew then, what we know how, we wouldn't have bothered.

We don't know who built them or why. One day they just came in massive numbers and swarmed the planet in a rain of metallic death. Every starship was mobilized both on our world and our two sister planets, and in the end we won the battle.

The ecosystem of Hemloch had been totally destroyed, and the population was only a small fraction of what it once was. The tourist domes had become battle bunkers, and later, ecological habitats. These habitat domes were the only place living things could still exist. Yet something unliving still stirred in the wilds between the domes - the last remnants of what once was a terrifying robotic flotilla.

Hemloch is no longer a tourist world, and its people are no longer inviting and friendly. Indeed, if any traits could describe the ecclectric culture of this planet, they would be secrecy and paranoia. Among the other two worlds in the Stellar Republic, Hemloch had gathered a reputation of a dark planet, a planet of secrets. Interstellar travelers were warned against visiting, for violating Hemloch's harsh laws was punishable by death. Even for visitors. Especially for visitors.

In this transformation, Hemloch has also become a valuable resource to the Stellar Republic. It is a planet whose surface is littered with technology and starships. Its Space Navy was no longer a small presence to escort merchant ships, but was growing exponentially with as much speed as they could salvage and rebuild the Bots and their spaceships. These massive salvage operations attracted soldiers, spacefarers, engineers, and scientists to open a new era of space exploration.

As soon as new ships could be repaired and crewed, they were commissioned by the Navy and sent out. Most such ships don't have a particular mission, and the Navy doesn't really care what happens to most of them -- they are in abundance now. Their duty is simply to explore, to see what's out there, and report back on their findings. Their primary mission is to find more information about the Bots, who built them, where they came from, and how we can strike back. But it's also to see what else is out there. Are there other planets that would make useful members of the Republic? Are there other threats out there we need to know about? Are there new sources of technology to exploit?

This is the job of the Hemloch Navy.

Mission 0: Off The Books

The players are criminals recruited by a wealthy industrialist. His son has just been taken hostage aboard the luxury cruise liner Priceless Pearl. The authorities have begun negotiations, but they are unwilling or unable to act decisively. So Mr Xephlorn has taken matters into his own hands, recruiting experienced thieves and smugglers to sneak aboard the ship and rescue his son.

The mission starts with the luxery liner being hit by a single boarding pod, containing all four players (3 + bot).

Special rules:

BOARDING PODS
At the beginning, one boarding pod is launched at the ship. Additional boarding pods can be called from the Sciences station. The non-player characters on the ship remain unaware of the arrival of these boarding pods. Boarding pods will hit a random module, and hurt anyone in that module. When a boarding pod arrives, it damages everyone in the module, ejects anyone in the boarding pod (up to four people), and then gets damaged. It can be re-used to allow up to four people to evacuate the ship, but must be repaired first.

PLENTIFUL BOTS
This scenario takes place in the Hemloch system, where bots are plentiful. The players start with one combat-bot, C4. Each additional boarding pod they call, can optionally come with another C4 bot, but with only basic field equipment, only one C4 bot can be controlled in any given round. If the bots are destroyed and left behind, the players will be given another C4 bot at the end of the mission.

Success:
Either 1) or 2) below:

1) Repair the boarding pod, find Refutos Xephlorn, and launch the boarding pod with Refutos Xeophlorn aboard.

2) All five (3 + bots) terrorists are disabled or killed and at least 3 of the 5 hostages survive, including Refutos Xephlorn.

Potential complications:

- Refutos Xephlorn is a terrorist. He will have to be knocked unconscious or wounded and dragged in order to be "rescued".

- One of the terrorist bots starts traveling to various engine modules, planting time bombs programmed to go off in three rounds.

- The terrorist at the science station must maintain communication with the fleet's negotiators. If communication stops, the fleet will start firing missiles at the ship.

How well did this scenario work out?

I've owned this game for a while and tried a mission, but everyone didn't care for it. I'm looking for successful scenarios to see if I can steal some ideas and try it out.

I haven't yet played it. We've put off Battlestations for a bit while I wait for the expansions to come in, but they are stuck with one of my pre-orders.

It's been giving me time to read up on all the books though and get acquainted with all the rules. I've also picked up Galactic Civil War and a second rulebook, separate of my pre-order purchases. I am especially looking forward to Pax Galacticum.
