Some 2nd Slice players have experimented with the setup to have the helipad show up earlier. This can make the game harder for players to get a zombie victory but it does keep things pretty fast paced. It works best if you are using the new helicopter ending.

Here is the final form of the tight setup.

Shuffle the town tiles after setting asside town square and helipad. If playing with expansion 6 : Six Feet Under include its tiles with the regular town stack.
1) Draw 6 town tiles and shuffle in the town helipad.
2) Draw 6 town tiles and shuffle in the front doors if any. Place these on top of the helipad stack.
2b) If playing with expansion 6 : Six Feet Under then add 4 extra tiles on top of the stack.
3) Place the rest of the town tiles under the helipad stack.

For each expansion tile set with a helipad draw 5 regular expansion tiles, shuffle in the helipad, and place on top of the rest of the expansion's tiles.

In the case of expansion 1: Mall Walkers draw 3 regular tiles and shuffle in the helipad. Then draw 3 more tiles and shuffle in the escalators. Place the escalators stack on top of the helipad stack and then place that whole stack on top of the remaining tiles.

That's it. The game will come to a climax much earlier than normal. Enjoy.

Played two big sessions with expansion 2: Zombie Corps(e) and expansion 5:School's Out Forever. The tight set up works fairly well but players are generally not in a position to take on the helipads when they come out. That changes the nature of play in that the players may run from the helipad to try and find more goodies and get into frenzy mode. The guts rules delay frenzy slightly so we had the fun of two helipads being out and everyone hunting around the edges.
Black found a shot gun and went for the central helipad, but became a zombie. The other two players in that game started playing dodge with the zombie player. The helipad zombies all got moved out and more dodge games happened as the humans tried to get to the helipad in good enough condition to hold on to it.
Zombie made a move to take out yellow, who was down to 1 life and a few bullets. Yellow lucked out, dashed for the helipad and held on for a turn for the win.

Overall, this variation works and pushes some difficult decisions.

Ok, a quick variant on a quick variant.

Before creating the tight set up separate out the tiles from the town stack that have shops on through roads, like the army surplus and florist. Shuffle and deal three to the side.

Then shuffle the rest back in and go through the tight setup described above.

Finally put the three set asside tiles on the top of the stack.

You are guarenteed to get three useful shops radiating out near the townsquare early. It gives players enough time and material to buff up a bit before getting a helipad to deal with.
