We randomly drew the Werewolf ending. Still played with the dragon board, but instead of fighting the dragon king at the end we just fought the werewolf...

Or, should we not have used the board without a "dragon" ending?

That's because I currently cannot play any board games.

The question might be answered with another question: did you have some problems when completing the game or did you feel something was wrong with it? If not, probably that ending can be applied seamlessly to the Dragon expansion; if yes, it means that the ending doesn't integrate well with the Dragon rules.

From a thematic point of view, it's a bit pointless to manage all that scales placement and Dragon King swapping, then not confront any Dragon King, but in principle you can draw a random hidden ending or even use a revealed ending with the Dragon rules. There might be certain situations that are unclear and require a house rule.

The limit of the Dragon inlay board is that you must place dragon scales on Dragon kings in order to use the Dragon Realm side (otherwise there won't be any additional penalties) and that you must have a Dragon King to manage the Dragon Tower side.

I actually like the Dragon Realm without the rest of the dragon rules. It is slightly more forgiving than the default inner region.

The scales did feel somewhat pointless without the dragon to fight, but other than that it was fine.
A hidden ending sounds fun. We will have to try that out

Why ? I don't see it mentioned in rules.

The Dragon tower is just 1 way to play dragons there are others. But you can still have a king and track it, just have no access to him. Simply place another ending there.
