I had given up on France assuming they had become a full fledged socialist country in decline, but it appears there may be hope for them yet.

I wonder what the ramification are for America's leftists in their upcoming elections..

I wonder how long before the moonbats cry racism over these results.

Quote:
France’s far-right Front National stormed to victory in European elections on Sunday night, leading an unprecedented surge in support for anti-EU parties across Europe that was set to reverberate far beyond Brussels politics.

The FN, led by Marine le Pen, claimed victory against both the centre-right UMP and President François Hollande’s ruling Socialist party for the first time in a nationwide vote, a stunning defeat for the mainstream parties in Europe’s second-largest economy.

Recovering. Not recovered.

I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of cars burning in the streets there. The previous 30 years or so of increasing government payouts and opening the borders to anybody from anywhere has created an embedded and hostile underclass that feels entitled.

At least that's the way it's reported here. It could be just the opposite... France may have been just that close to a socialist utopia before the evil conservatives ruined it yet again.

Only in RSP can you find people cheering for the election of a racist, homophobic, holocaust denying party which also supports protectionism... free market not so great after all?

Also you've got to be pretty deluded to believe that France has gotten more socialist over the last 30 years or that the EU had open borders.

They read right wing and cheer, it seems. That the big government fn is as far from their libertarian wet dreams as anything doesn't enter the equation. These guys are conservatives that are very happy to support big government.

Also, the most interesting figure seems to be the turnout. In France it is reported to be about 35%, so about 8% of all eligible voters voted for fn. Not bad but hardly a landslide.

Of all the european countries, France, and less surprisingly the UK, are probably the ones that are politically the closest to the U.S.
There is an interesting comparison to do with the tea party, given that the antisemitic accusations are probably fabricated (classic political kill when you can not go for pedophilia) and that I'm not sure that the TP is not protectionist.
For one, the economic/unemployment situation is not improving, which helps to boost extremists everywhere. As soon as it improves, the support will erode, just see what is going on here.
Also, like with the tea party, people are fed up with corrupted governments where everybody in power use their position to 'help' their friends and family. In short, it's an anti-establishment vote.
And, as here, the traditional conservatives are weak.

That said, there are differences too.
The media in France are 100% controlled by the left. There are some conservative outlets, but they are targeted as such, as the liberal media are marketed as 'the reference'. People are not stupid and they are fed up with the leftist propaganda.
The FN is a really popular movement, it is not driven from behind by some private interest - there is not such thing as french Koch brothers.
And, above all, the current presidency in France is a disaster, to a level that makes the Bush presidency to pale in comparison.
So all the ingredients are there for the perfect storm to happen...

Thanks god, with Fox&Co, David and Charles, and with a president that was able to fix the mess of his predecessor, we're not going to see the TP at 25% in the near future.

One more thing that's not going to happen with the tp, btw.

They ain't changed that much. They have just put on a new frock.

You don't have to listen to the French media, other European media, other European parties (including those on the right, even people like UKIP) want to have nothing to do with the FN.

Similarly FN want nothing to do with Greece's Golden Dawn.

That so many far-right parties got a lot of votes is nothing to cheer about.

Lets also make one thing clear, most Europeans consider the European parliament a safe protest. In fact there is a growing sense of dissatisfaction with the EU's evolution even in the more Euorophile countries.

This vote is not a vote against "socialist France", or for a more American style conservatism. It's a vote against Europe.

This may not transfer into a vote for who runs France.

Would calling the 1920's National Socialists racist be crazy simply because someone on the internet called people who thought it was "moonbats"?

This. If you scratch the veneer of respectability they've been working very hard to put on with their recent change of leadership, you'll find the same racist and nationalist ideology it always had. You don't have to dig very far to find it, the first thing many of their newly elected mayors did was to forbid school cafeterias from offering pork-free meals to students.

I also find ironic that the OP rejoices in the victory of probably the least US-friendly of the French political parties.

Much better to whine about racism than to be apologetic about it.

I didn't see the OP "cheering". Racism was brought up only in the sense that he felt the moronic left.... a well represented majority here in RSP... would see anything except absolute lockstep hatred and denunciation of any view that varies from theirs as being racist.

He was 100% correct in that regard. I even reread to see if he supported the object of the moron-hate ya'll exhibit, and he didn't He just made an observation and you mopes frothed in your pants about it.

Trolling - new RSP definition - anything written by any person that does not conform to the rigid and dogmatic idiocy of the RSP Leftoids.

You guys are fucking stupid.

Ah, the old 'he didn't say that'. Classic Tripp white knighting his moronic little brothers when they get slapped around for taking a dump in the sand box. Of course it was quite neutral when Jeremy called a vote for fn a recovery from stupidity, called it the right way and sees reason for hope in this vote. You both choose to ignore the obviously racist and xenophobic politics of this party out of sheer glee for the socialists' defeat. Assholes.

Classic ! When modern liberals and socialists lose elections it is always because of the uninformed voters who are racists. Its never the result of their failed policies.

I also find it wildly amusing how this political party is full of racists because of their past how long does that get to factor into their policies now ? I assume they are racist until they become leftists and then magically they are no longer racists.

Meanwhile here in the USA the DemocRat party is no longer the party of racism and intolerance because of some magical shift where conveniently, they switch identities with their Republican counterparts.

Stay classy my moonbat friends, stay classy !
