I've seen some wonderful DIY tables on BGG, but I don't have the time, skill and resources to make those excellent works of art. What does everyone else use? What dimensions are "ideal" for your group - 4x4, 4x6, 4x8?

Most of my gaming takes place on a 4.5'x4.5' (it's an odd sized table). My play group is usually 4-6 people. Certain larger games (like Eclipse or Twilight Imperium) will be played on my 4'x8' table though.

You probably want to evaluate how big of a footprint your games usually are. And how much elbow room you want to give your players. My preference is to have a lot of extra room on the table to keep things from getting cramped and to give room for snacks/drinks.

Depends on the number of players you are aiming for. 4'x6.5' is an ideal if you are looking for three players on the long side of the table.

Thanks guys, I'm thinking of a 4x6 with a leaf, so that seems consistent with what's been said thus far.
