The aim is to collect treat cards (ranging from +1 to +3 points), avoid trick cards (-1 to -3 points) and collect a costume made up of a mask card, an accessory card and a suit card (each worth 2 points), plus a 4 point bonus if the costume cards are all the same type (eg ghost, or vampire). There are all sorts of special action cards as well.

Each turn, negotiate with another player to exchange up to 3 cards. The exchange is divided into cards that you want the other player to take into their hand and cards that they must play immediately. Funny thing, you can never score trick or treat cards for yourself, you must always receive them in an exchange in the ‘to play’ division (ie a player must donate them to you). You can refuse exchanges if you think the other player is lying and about to dump something bad on you (de rigeur if you’re in the lead), but you then lose a card randomly from your hand to the other player. Whilst other negotiations are in progress, there’s nothing to do, so the game is slow (60 minutes in the end). The negotiations are fairly straight forward, usually swapping like with like so as to get something played (a blue bean for a blue bean?). Altogether, not that exciting. A rating of 4.
