Hi guys, the other day we had a controversial situation in one of our games concerning trade routes. The advance itself says that the cities you collect from need to be "unique" does that mean they cannot be under cultural influence? The trade routes explanation does not explain the term "unique". This would mean that in a 3+ game you could really hamper someones economic engine .

Despite your hope, there is not even any inherent symbolism; gravity is simply a coincidence.

Unique means that two settlers (or ships) cannot both use the same city to count for trade routes. In other words, a 1:1 correspondence between settlers/ships and cities with which they trade.

Thanks Jay that makes sense. Thinking about it it would be cool tho to be able to hamper other player's economic engines in certain ways other than swinging the club

Just ignore cultural influence when you establish trade routes.

You can mess with your opponents Trade routes by allowing your peripheral cities fall "Angry". Then his or their Trade Routes won't work with your cities. You can use Taxation or Autocracy to work with Angry cities or just ignore them, you only have so many actions anyway.
