Here's the deal.

My son is 15. He just broke up with his girlfriend of 17 months about 2 weeks ago. Usually Wednesday nights consisted of pick her up, have dinner, play Descentv2, and then go with her to Drum Corps practice.

There is no Corps practice tonight (too many parades this weekend, we need a break).

This will leave my son to wallow in not having anything to do.

When we played Descent, it was 5 player (wife and daughter as well). I don't want to get back into that yet as it will really stress that she is not there (she was their tank).

SO, my son is very picky about games. Loves Risk Legacy, which will be my fall back if no other suggestions come up. Tolerates Descent (too long for his tastes). Loves Blue Moon.

What do I own that is good for 4 with next to no learning curve, an hour or so to play, and extremely little downtime. No abstracts.

Right now, I'm thinking Risk Legacy or Citadels tonight.

I'd do Betrayal at House on the Hill. That's a game you can get lost in very quickly and have a lot of fun.

Sentinels of the Multiverse would be my next option.

Unfortunately, mine is first edition and the book often renders things unplayable.

I'll go with:

Can't Stop - chatty, social, takes your mind off your problems
Nexus Ops - hopefully the original dayglow kind
Pandemic - Rally the family to work together
Small World - Good lighthearted slugfest

I would suggest:

- Dixit
- Hanabi
- King of Tokyo
- RoboRally

My suggestion: Ask your son which game he wants to play.

I get you're a bit upset, but that's a little harsh, no?

Galaxy Trucker is always good for some laughs, and I feel like everyone at least appreciates the idea the first time they play. That would be my top rec (aside from Risk Legacy, if you know he likes it, why not go for it)

I haven't played Castle Panic, but it sounds like it could work

Or Vegas Showdown if you want something a bit heavier/Euro-er, but it sounds like that may not be the case.
