Let's say you currently have space for only two dwarves in you cave. Would it be possible with your first action to give birth to a new dwarf and then with the second action buy the required dwelling. I suppose it would not be allowed since you run the risk of being blocked when trying to get a dwelling, thus not being able to carry out the "Wish for children" action properly. What are your thoughts?

As I understood it, you have to have the space for the baby before you have the baby. So, you could do what you said but you would have to do it in reverse...build then birth.

This is the end; hold your breath and count to ten; feel the earth move and then; hear my heart burst again

You need the dwelling before taking the action. This is explained in the rulebook.

The "Wish for children" space lets you perform one of two actions: family growth or furnish a Dwelling.

The rules say (page 15) that "You can only use a “Family growth” action if you have more room for Dwarfs in your Dwellings than you have Dwarfs."

You cannot add a Dwarf with the Family growth action unless you have first added an extra Dwelling.

All of the above responses correctly describe the rule for getting the dwelling before adding a new member to the family. Thematically, of course, this makes sense also. Even while Mommy dwarf is still pregnant, many preparations are being made for baby's new room in advance. Daddy dwarf is painting the cave walls and building a rock cradle, Mommy dwarf is weaving some awesome baby clothes from the sheep's wool. Then the lady dwarves from the neighboring caves will come over for a baby shower with all sorts of gifts...maybe a swing, a blanket, a rocking chair, lots of toys. And they will insist upon seeing the room. They need a place to put all that stuff - it won't fit in the parents' room! When baby finally arrives (at the end of the round), the new room will be stocked and ready.

(Of course, just like real life, "baby" will turn into a full size teenager/adult very quickly, but should be able to help with cave and forest chores at that point.)
