I've seen a couple other share their attempts, so I thought I would share mine. I wanted to get the cool green glow from my borg ships, so I did what many other have as well.

I started off like everyone else, I used a hair dryer to heat up the glue and carefully pried apart the two halves of the sphere.

I forgot to get a picture, but I then used a dremel to sand off the paint on the inside of the sphere and the circle part on the front and back. I used a light green Water based Acrylic to coat the inside of the sphere halves and the circle part on the front and back to give it the green glow. I used this paint because even when it dries it is semi transparent and would allow the light to pass through. It is hard to see in the pictures, but I also attached small magnets where the old connection points were so that I can close and reopen it at any time.

I need to get a better and more efficient light in the future, but for now I just used some LED's that I had laying around. I attached some wires to the LED and attached them to a small battery with electrical tape. I left a hook on one end of the wire that works as an on/off switch. Like I said, there is much room for improvement, but that's what I had at the time.

Everything tucked inside and reassembled, you can barely tell the difference.

The finished product. Again, I plan on getting a better LED for future builds, but this works for now.

Now I just need to repaint the outside and it will be good to go.

Excellent! Maybe dry-brush or do some panel outlining in glow-in-the-dark paint?
