I'm still relatively new to the hobby of board gaming and, before today, I have only ever been in one dedicated board game shop. That shop had been untidy, smelt of sweat and everyone had turned to look at us as I walked in with my daughters. As a result, my daughters had wanted to leave immediately.

Visiting Oxford today, though, I had the pleasure of coming across 'Thirsty Meeples' in the town centre, a board game cafe. There were families sitting and playing at tables, too engrossed with their games to notice us. There was a huge range of games available to play; it was clean and airy and the atmosphere was welcoming without being overbearing. There was even a new copy of 'Among the Stars' for sale in case anybody is trying to get hold of it! This is how I imagined a board game cafe should be and I wish there more of them in the UK. It is certainly well worth a visit if you happen to be near Oxford.
