(Thought I posted a similar question last night but I can't find it now, must have been eaten by the internet, so appologies if this is a duplicate post)

I'm tempted to back this on Galaxy as I never backed season 1.
My issue is I'd be missing out on the season 1 KS exclusives, several of which are very appealing, which makes me think maybe I should just wait for a KS copy to hit the secondary market instead.

The FAQ does say at the bottom however "We have a limited number of Season 1 exclusives left in stock. They are not a part of this Kickstarter because the quantity is very small (and uneven between the various expansions), but we'll solicit them to backers after this Kickstarter ends."

So my question is:
1) Is there an easy list anywhere of what the actual S1 exclusives were which can tell me what I could be potentially missing out on (the KS page itself is confusing as shit!)
2) Which of these do I have no chance of getting at the end of S2 because it's sold out (I know they were offering some last minute at game release so anything not available there would be sold out already.)

Cheers!

How usable are these items? I heard there are no campaigns that even reference them so you can't even really use them in the game?

Don't forget alternative Agent Chromium.

I bought the Blue and Green Mind controlled agents, Red Xeno-bots, and galaxy ball cards when they offered the extra stuff after the first kickstarter finished shipping.

I remember seeing, The Hunt and The Hive, Agents Sliver and Iron, one of the G-Droids, alternative Chromium, and some Xeno-morphs.

Holy crap that's a lot of "exclusive" stuff.

Don't care about things like metal miniatures, but certainly want the movie ripoff figures. What else is worth having?

The metal minis wouldn't be an option, anyway. They didn't make extras enough to sell for those.

Pretty much any agent you can get ahold of is going to be worthwhile, but if memory serves some of the more popular ones simply weren't available as extra inventory near the end of the sale (for instance, I know there weren't any Agent Xeno-Hunters, and I don't think they had any Agent N/S).

Of the other aliens, the ones necessary to play the extra missions from the first Kickstarter are the Xeno-Morphs (x3 red, x1 optional blue swarm, x1 optional green swarm), Xeno-Hunters (x3, I believe), G-droid (x1), and Xenobots (optional, for the G-droid mission).

Galaxy Ball cards are only really necessary if you have a bunch of the KS1 extras (since that's the only thing included that isn't available as PnP).

The extra devices, skills, etc. were never available for purchase, since they were all stretch goals (not options). Extra maps are not very useful, unless you have too much space in your house and need to fill it with some more cardboard.

Personally, I think the green/blue Xeno-beasts look pretty useless, but I suppose you could sub them into the missions that use the Xeno-beast to lower the difficulty. No official guidance has been offered on what you would do with these otherwise, though.

Thats not all exlusive, some of the minis were just Addons (might be sold later), check the original kickstarter page for that.

You forgot to "*" the alternative Agent Chromium. Agent Xeno Hunter is missing, too.

Also add the Blue and Green Xenomorph Swarm (lesser version of the "Alien").

Most of the exclusive stretchgoals were tokens. You dont really need them.

In the "sellout" after the kickstarter, they offered only stuff from the addons, nothing from the stretchgoals (unless it was an addon, too).

From your list it was "The War" (Agent Iron+Silver), "The Hunt" (Alien Xeno Hunter and Xenomorph), Alien and Agent G-Droid, (Alternative Agent Chromium), (Blue and Green Xenomorph Swarms), Galaxy Ball Cards.

There were no: Agent N and S (Men in Black) and no Agent Agent Xeno-Hunter (these were stretchgoals only).

Shakka

Edit: I suggest to skip the one suggested mission with the 3 Red Xenomorphs (you would need 3 "The Hunt" packs for them, that is 60$ (if you can get them at the original price)).

The exclusive stuff have minimal impact on campaign play as the extra mobs won't appear there. Some extra agents are nice to have so I suggest trying to get them.

In all honesty, the KS exclusive stuff is more for collectors then anything else.

You cannot use any aliens in the main game and there is like 1 mission per KS alien available as download (so far)

The devices are pretty much all very very situational and actually might make the game harder if you are forced to draw a random one.

Finally the agents are nice, but they are basically the original ones with a different special power. You could look for their char sheets and use their powers with your sculpts.

Also note that not all stuff is KS exclusive. So the flying Bots and the Mind Controlled Agents might appear in a future expansion in retail.

He's not actually listed as KS exclusive anywhere I could find so I didn't add him.

The only things I'd try to get would be the agents and the aliens. Everything else is ignorable.

The items just show up when you want them to. No mission references items that I'm aware of.

Unless you mean "items" as everything on the list then yes there's downloadable missions that use them or you can just throw any alien into any mission you want for an extra challenge.

Another great data point on the use of exclusives - turning away future customers.

Peace

PS. Buy the game Frank - it is a fun game despite the out of date marketing tactics of Ares.

I really agree with that statement. I'm also a backer of the current kickstarter at the purple level.

The thing is, now that I check it out, I don't really care that much about the exclusives in either the original campaign or this one.

Also, with all the expansions out now you have enough variety for decent replayability without having to go into the funky exclusives.

I very much agree. I want the stuff I unlock with my pledge to be available to EVERYONE, not just me. That's why I back games; to make them exist at all, not to pre-order or get special treatment. I don't get some extra sense of self worth because I own something someone else doesn't.

Bzzt... Incorrect.

You're making a habit of this. Exclusives are not a bad thing, but what IS exclusive can be.

Non-game affecting elements -- not a problem. Nicer tokens, alternate sculpts, etc... Exclusives drive Kickstarters and are a great up to date marketing tactic.

Game affecting items, in this case new agents, aliens, devices, etc... should NOT be exclusive (you get partial credit for being partially right). They can be FREE for supporters, but should always be made available for additional purchases.

Did you really just "bzzt" me?!? Seriously?

Where is this committee that decided your opinion was right and mine is "Incorrect"? Can I get their email address? I would like to have a chat with them.

Love the Internet.

For the record I have spoken many many times about liking non game play exclusives and having a strong dislike of game play exclusives. I am aware of the difference. Galaxy Defenders exclusives are ALL game play exclusives if I am not mistaken. Which is what I was referring to and (I believe)which Mr. Skeletor was inquiring about.

I am not the fellow who posted he was considering NOT buying the game because of the difficulty in acquiring those exclusives. I was just the fellow who was noticing it is another great data point on the use of exclusives.

HawkeyeLonewolf wrote:

You don't think Mr. Skeletor NOT buying the game today because he cannot get the exclusives is a bad thing? I actually do, because I like the game and would prefer it to have MORE fans, not less.

Did he really just "bzzt" me?!?! Love the internet.

Peace

PS. I value your opinion Kevin, feel free to speak it around me anytime. I would never tell you your opinion is "bzzt...Incorrect".

I bought 1 of everything from the last Kickstarter and have made some of the most challenging and fun levels bringing those characters into the game. The Xeno-Bot and Morph swarms are awesome to fight, my friend tries to bring the swarms into every game we play. You have the ability to pre-set up the Event cards and add in special aliens that will be brought in when triggered. I have found that you want your guys to have a few gear upgrades before adding in some of the KS Exclusives as they can be down right tough! GD is my favorite game of the year and I am stoked for THE HOVER BIKES!

The exclusives from GD are not game changing whatsoever I am muddling my way through the campaign currently using the stock items and characters just fine. The method that Ares is using for exclusives works well.

No one will find that they are unable to play the game if they do not own one of the exclusive items. IMO that is when an exlcusive is in poor taste, i.e. you cannot play the game unless you have an exclusive.

Get GD!! it is by far my favorite game this year and made more so by the fact that I took a chance and kickstarted it!

Actually Greater Than Games does it right with their exclusive promos. Once the entire run of Sentinels of the Multiverse is done (no more expansions) they'll make a set of all the promos available for sale. This provides a model for rewarding pre-order backers while encouraging sales in the retail channel since nothing is limited forever.

Making things exclusive only enriches sellers on the secondary market and chases away potential customers; however, since those factors can't be objectively measured businesses will continue to ignore those opportunity costs.

My model for these kinds of situations is I will only buy the game after I've been able to buy the exclusives on the secondary market otherwise I won't buy at all since I've been denied content; the assumption being of course if the game is good I'll want more of it.

The agent exclusives are the primary gameplay factor. You get a considerable number of "classes" to play with, which may be more replayability if you get bored of the normal ones.

And while you don't use the alien exclusives in the core game, you have the option of adding them in to the alien deck to teleport in, or swapping them in for another enemy type.

It's a modular system, and while they're gameplay-oriented exclusives, you get a VERY complete game system in just the "basic" box. I paid about 1.5x to get my backer's remorse copy, and the player characters are really the best part of those... but with season 2 coming out, there's plenty of replay coming your way regardless.
