... Answers.com, which touts itself as the site for good answers too good questions.

Quote:
We offer consumers smart, innovative and enjoyable Answers to life’s questions based on the wisdom of crowds, the preference of friends and the advice of experts.

To wit: frequently asked questions (and their answers) about Board Games (http://www.answers.com/mt/board-games).

Chess a 4,000-year old game?

Or this priceless question/answer pair:

Quote:
What are race and chase board games?

Board games in which you race and chase.

As for the "good games" recommendations... yech!

Seriously, those are some of the worst answers I have ever seen.

What is a good board game?

"a good board game would have to be either monoply or the westing game they are the best board games"

"Some good board games are Chutes and Ladders, Checkers, Candy Land, Pictionary, Scrabble"

Candy Land made the list! Despite all the BGG discussion about Settlers of Catan, and how it's mainstream, I didn't see a peep about it.

The Wisegeek one was just lame.

I actually didn't think the wisegeek answer was all that bad.

The first paragraphs aren't bad, true, but the last three ones reveal that the author has no clue whatsoever about board games published in the last decades --- except for the games that use electronic devices.

Isn't that a little bit like asking "what is a canoe?" and expecting it to go into all the latest Olympic canoe racing technologies? That's not information for the normal person who is asking a very general question.

Pete (knows we're the extreme and not the norm around here)

I'd say it's more like asking what video games are and getting an answer that concludes this "home video game console" idea from Nintendo has some promise…

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

I did like how they corrected "shoots [sic] and ladders" to "snakes and ladders" half way through.

I'd like to come up with some questions, and answers, for these sites:

Like:

Q: Is Scrabble a 4X game?
A: No. There is only one X in Scrabble.

But what if the X is on double letter and the word spelled hits double word?

I'm quite disappointed in this thread. When I saw the title of the original post, I thought that I finally might have won something on this site.

It got you to click on it. I'm guessing they don't care about anything else. So who gets the clueless award?

Who was the killer in the board game clue?

In the board game, it can be anyone.

In the 1985 movie, there were three endings. In one, it was Miss Scarlet (Leslie Ann Warren), in another Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), and in the third it was "everyone" except for Mr. Green (Michael McKean).
[/quote]

Verdict: Not Clueless
