Hey all. I'm torn over what to play at Imdaar Alpha this weekend. These are the lists I'm looking at.

Blue Squadron Pilot x3
Prototype Pilot x2

The A-Wings make good blockers and flankers, but I seem to be having problems with getting shot before I get to shoot back.

Or...

Roark Garnet w/Blaster Turret and Recon Specialist
Wedge w/Swarm Tactics
Blue Squadron Pilot
Rookie Pilot

This one gives me either one shot at PS12 and two at PS9, or two shots at PS12. It's kind of the opposite of the first list, but with one less ship, and overall fewer hit points to have to chew through.

Just wondering what some of the more experiences pilots out there might think.

Thanks in advance.

I like the second one a lot better, it has a much more offensive tactics to it with the high PSs I like the 1 12 and 2 9s option, as most times all 3 will fire first, and you've got some good damage output. Just keep wedge behind the blue/rookie a bit so he's not out in front or he is toast. Nice list.

I had a lot of fun with a somewhat similar Roark, Wedge, and two B-wing list, so I have to say I'm a little biased for that (Also, I stink at blocking effectively).

One thing to consider with Wedge is that he's going to be the priority target for most opponents. It might make sense to hang back with him for a turn of shooting. B-wings can take a beating, and Roark ensures that they can fire first if a hurt one is still under attack next round. If you do that, it's worth dropping swarm tactics from him to upgrade to another b-wing. But I see where you're going having three ships shooting at PS 12, 9, and 9.

On Roark, I would go Ion Turret. I just like them a lot more than blasters. They're cheaper (once you figure you have to take Recon to make them worthwhile), they do pretty similar damage a lot of the time, and they make opponent movement really predictable if you hit.

I'd guess that 3 blues and two prototypes is probably a little better of a squad, but it would demand careful flying against higher PS opponents that can reposition (interceptors, expert handling large ships, eg.) If you fly that squad, you want to use the A-Wings to deny actions and take close range shots. If you let your opponent hit just the A-Wings or just the B-Wings, you'll get destroyed. I know, that's true for any list.

They both sound fine to me though, so go with what you're comfortable flying.

I can see the benefit of having a second B-Wing from a survivability standpoint, but you lose the potential for extra damage by trading out the blaster turret. Can you give me some rationale for the change?

1) Roark is susceptible to action denial. If he crashes, he can't Focus and can't use his secondary weapon.

2) control, support and versatility. Your other ships can dish out damage just fine, but they're fairly easy to hit. Ionizing a target lets you know exactly where it will be and get out of its arc next turn. You can even ionize a ship into an asteroid, or ionize it while it's stressed to prevent it from taking an action next turn. Ion Cannons have lots of options, and you don't need Focus tokens to power them. In fact, with Ion Cannon, you can save a couple points by dropping Recon Specialist if you want. Oh, and they're not useless against Dark Curse and Carnor Jax.

What advice would you give on flying such a list? I've been practicing with the BBBAA list since I'd sold myself on that one. It was fun but it seems the low pilot skill is a big hindrance, at least in the way I was flying it. I don't have any practice with this particular build.

Thanks in advance.

I'm planning on flying your first list in tomorrow's event. I've had a chance to play a few games with it over the past couple of weeks, and while the low pilot skills can be a bit of a challenge, it's a lot of fun to play.

The approach I'm taking is using the A-Wings as flankers, and not as blockers. While I don't have a lot of experience flying this list, I've found that if I can keep the As alive long enough that, even with their low pilot skill, they can be very annoying to deal with.

I also haven't flown it against very many lists. My main practice opponent typically runs variants of a BBXX list, which I do okay against.

Another reason I'm running the As tomorrow is that very few of our locals use them, and I just want to see them represented on the table.

Played the BBBAA list today and got 4th. Got last pick for a ship and got the TIE Defender. Still, a free ship is a free ship. Thanks to everyone that helped me out with figuring out what to do.
